Auto Parts Store Find: Hot Wheels 787B
I found this little gem hanging on an endcap while at Advance Auto Parts yesterday! I'm sure it could be found elsewhere but it was convenient (and a little pricey @ $6.99). Has anyone else found something similar? It was added to my Matchbox FD & Hot Wheels FB collection.

For those interested, here are the other cars mentioned above.

That's pretty cool, George.

Not sure where or when I got this Hot Wheels car. I call it my Michael Jordan/ Chicago Bulls edition FB |
I've been looking everywhere for that 787b. I refuse to buy online because that's cheating and takes the fun out of collecting these.
|
mkiv98,
I wish you the best of luck on your search! This one "found" me in an auto parts store. Do you have the others shown on the backside? |
I'd like to find that 787B. I have most of the Hot Wheels FB's from the last few years and a couple FD's. The FC gets no love though. I think I've yet to see a FC since I've been watching for the past few years.
|
Dak,
I hope you find that 787B soon. Do you have any pics to share of your rotary Hot Wheels collection? |

I have a friend that collects Hot Wheels and he'll buy some extras for me when he finds something that I'll like. I got the 787 as well and threw that into a case that one of my other Hot Wheels was in.

RapidCancel,
That is really cool! Thanks for sharing. I like the 787 in its own case - nice touch! |
I went on the hunt this evening to find another 787B or its siblings listed on the back panel.
Instead, I found another Hot Wheels car to add to the collection. This time it is a lime green FB. It belongs to a set of 9 cars packaged as "Hot Wheels 9". I found it at Wal-Mart and it runs about $9.60. If others are interested in finding it then you may have to look for these particular cars. I found similar "Hot Wheels 9" packages but they had different cars. There are a few other cool cars such as a pair of Datsun 240s (one in yellow is supposed to be a Fairlady Z), Nissan 370Z, Alfa Romeo 4C, Honda CR-X , and an unidentifiable Plymouth hot rod. I also appreciate the Hot Wheels stencil that appears on a few of these cars. It is a nice touch and fairly detailed when magnified. Photos of the FB and packaging are below if you are interested in finding it. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...793bd63d25.jpg Profile shot of the FB. Note the Hot Wheels stencil at the door seam. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d5b16c0157.jpg 3/4 shot of the FB https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d61878491a.jpg Datsun 240Z https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...eb00e7cf93.jpg The Nismo/Fairlady Z version of the 240Z https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...cb3e176ec3.jpg The package |
New update!
I found a couple more Hot Wheels RX-7s while at Target and Wal-Mart today. First, this Hot Wheels 9 package featured a '16 Corvette ZR1 (has lexan hood cutout), FD RX-7, FB RX-7, and a Porsche 917 race car. The price at Target was similar to Wal-Mart's at approx $9.60. Here are the photos: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...f227d854fb.jpg The Hot Wheels 9 package https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...15aa80d41c.jpg Close up of FD in the package. The nose of the FB is visible in the far top- left. While at Wal-Mart today, I sifted through their large display of Hot Wheels cars and found 2 single FD RX-7s. They were under a buck ($0.97) for each car. Here are the photos of the single package. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...daa22f0076.jpg Single package https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...7053bbccfd.jpg Close up, 3/4 front view https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...c10c58ad98.jpg Close up, side view |

Still no luck on the 787b but I did have another interesting find. Saw this mystery box at a local japanese grocery store, had no idea what was in it, and it was $11. It also had some nutrition facts info on the side, weird. I figured what the hell, bought it anyway.
Open it up and it's this actually quite detailed model. You can open the hood and see the stock engine, along with a full RHD interior. Also came with a little stand and side mirrors you can attach! And the nutrition facts was for a single tiny piece of gum that was in the box for some reason. Attachment 748209 Attachment 748210 Attachment 748211 |
mkiv98,
that was a great find! thanks for sharing. |
You’re going to have a hard time finding the 787b, they came out a few months ago. The major stores will have sold out of them by now. You can find the green FB in a three pack also at Walmart. The black FD just came out and is easy to find. There will be another FD coming out soon but it will be bare with no paint but have the same decals as the black one. They call them zamacs and can only be found at Walmart. Also a blue Repu just came out. I’m almost caught up with all the rotary vehicles, just need two more FB’s and need a few Furais. |
antman,
that's good to know on both accounts. I'll keep my eyes open for that zamacs FD. Would that be a Hot Wheels car or made by another company? |
It still is a regular hot wheels car, just a little different from the rest. The Zamac cars are a series of unpainted cars found only at Walmart. They release 18 models each year. Now that I looked it up, it will be a few months before that one comes out. |

You can find the maroon one in the 9 pack like the green FB. The rest of them came out years ago so eBay or go to toy shows at convention centers. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...1bf9b7388.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...229727bbb.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...f95bc5339.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b19318ff1.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...891718895.jpeg |
antman,
holy cow! That's a nice collection you have. Did you load up one of those 9 packs with rotary cars? Is that a baby blue FC in that 9 pack? I'll have to hunt down the Furai's then. |

I haven't seen anybody post this one yet. I found it at target for $2 a few days ago.

No love for FCs from Hot Wheels I see....
|
Tom93R1,
Thanks for posting your find. I'll have to check out my local Target now. FuhrerTuner, I hear ya. Hot Wheels gives plenty of love for the FB and FD. I think we should write to them! |

Was looking for some new cars tonight in Walmart and found some more 787s. Looks like they got some old sets in, might be worth checking out. Saw them in two different Walmarts tonight. |
antman,
Nice! Did you say that the Furai was only available in those 9-packs? I was on the hunt today for a couple of FDs, like Tom93R1's Color Shifter. So I found a REPU while at Wal-mart. I also forgot about this Jada "Endless" FD. It was squirreled away in a drawer. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8d46543b60.jpg Hot Wheels REPU, single pack https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...75131893e4.jpg Jada "Endless", found it in a drawer recently |
For FuhrerTuner & Pete_89T2,
I sent an email to Mattel requesting a Hot Wheels version of the FC. I received this response: "Thanks for reaching out to us about the Hot Wheels RX-7 Line. While I don't have information on when or if series 2 will be made, our website might be a great resource to check out. Keep checking back, as we add new Hot Wheel series all the time. https://shop.mattel.com/shop/en-us/m...tentPageSize:& The following retailers may also be a good place to start: Walmart, Target, Kmart, Meijers, Fred Meyer, Sam's Club, Shopko, Kohl's, Sears, and JC Penney. You can check their websites or other online sites like Amazon. I apologize for not having more specific information, but I hope this helps!" I followed up with a reply requesting a run of FC cars, both in turbo coupe and convertible versions. For antman0408, I saw a ZAMAC FD for sale on ebay. Isn't it supposed to be released later in the year? |
The maroon furai I only ever seen in the 9 packs. The zamac fd I mentioned will be out in a few months. There might be some on eBay, I didn’t check. People get the cars right from the factory and put them on eBay before they are officially released. I don’t know it they are workers taking them out or they’re able to buy them. This happens with the super treasure hunt cars the most. Also the blue repu is a super treasure hunt car. Their paint is different and they have rubber tires, not the plastic like the regular car. These are very very hard to find. You basically have to be there when the new cases come out to find them. |
antman,
Thanks for the added info. You certainly sound like a true collector! |
Do you think my REPU is a super treasure hunt car? I don't think it has rubber wheels. Its wheels look like typical plastic. Could I be wrong?
|
No the treasure hunt car has TH next to the 15 on the door. All of the super treasure hunt cars have the letters TH some where on the car Mazda REPU Hot Wheels 2019 Super Treasure Hunt - HWtreasure.com |
antman,
Thanks for the tip! Would you keep me posted when the ZAMAC FD comes out? |

^That's for sure - same goes for all the other die cast model makers, in other scale sizes too. I've been searching forever for a nice FC die cast in ANY scale, no luck landing one yet.
Try to look on ebay or wherever for Tomica diecasts. I got this one for a birthday present. They don't roll as smoothly as Hot Wheels but the doors open, and they have sort of a suspension. The body is sprung over the base. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4899/...154434af_c.jpg |

Is there a model name on the package? Several years ago I picked up this green one, but I don't think Mattel was able to use the name RX-7 at the time so it was called the 24/7.
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7914/...3222bf29_c.jpg There’s another FD coming out right now. The red Fd from the first fast and furious movie. It is in a premium line of 5 cars, all based on cars from the original fast and furious movie. They are all metal cars with rubber tires. Little more expensive at 5.50 each. There will be a silver FB coming out in a month or two also. I’ll keep you guys updated when new cars are coming out. |
After much searching, I was finally able to find the super treasure hunt Repu. Also the new fast and furious set came out this week.

Thanks, antman! Where did you find the Fast&Furious cars? I was at my local wally-world and didn't see anything. Congrats on the Treasure Hunt REPU! Where did you find it?

antman,
I checked out another Target & Wal-Mart today in search of the F&F set. No joy. However, the trip yielded 3 good surprises! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d82028b797.jpg Found at Target. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...df8f280e19.jpg Left one found at Wal-Mart. Right one found at Target along with the JDM Tuners model. The Wal-Mart color changer looked exactly like the Target color changer when they were bought. |
One more update on my toy rotary car collection. I got these from 1 seller on ebay. It may be "cheating" because I didn't hunt for them at local stores but these were out-of-production runs. Two interesting notes: first, 2 of the FD cars had a white "Hot Wheels" logo for a rear license plate. Second, the same 2 FDs had "round" tail lights that were visible in the photos.
Take a look at my recent haul. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...e7c222092f.jpg FB #1 https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...85e5365959.jpg FD #1 with gold rimmed wheels. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b9749c5b72.jpg Hot Wheels logo license plate & round tail lights https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...c30ca20c98.jpg FD #2 https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...aab10332b1.jpg FD #3 with gold spoke rims. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...2493d13d00.jpg FD #4 |

Hot Wheels license plate & round tail lights https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9accbd312a.jpg FB #2 Thanks for checking out my new additions! |
I bought a few cars on eBay as well. Those two red ones were a Kmart exclusive. Went to Walmart today and got to dig through a fresh dump bin. Found the new FB and also found 4 super treasure hunt cars. Still can’t believe I found 4, most of the time I’m lucky enough to get one.

Today's grocery store find. Also foundt Mad Mike's rotary Miata but didn't get it in the shot. I'm not exactly sure why a bunch of "New for 2017" cars suddenly showed up in the latest grocery store inventory but I'm not going to complain.

The zamac fd is suppose to be out now. Only available at Walmart. This will be the third wave of zamac editions cars released this year. Each wave has 3 cars. I haven’t seen any of them yet so good luck finding them. Seems like I might not find this one in stores.
I'll keep an eye out for the zamac FD at my surrounding wally-world stores. |
Looks like there will be two more FDs this year.

The yellow one is in the car culture series so it will be all metal car with the rubber tire wheels. Don’t know when that set is going to be released. |
antman,
Thanks for the update and keeping pulse on the Hot Wheels release schedule! Have you seen a zamac FD yet? I have not. |
I had one of the wind-up 99 spec rx7 toys, and it was awesome. So awesome my son and I eventually destroyed it. It sure took a lickin', tho. Gotta get another one of those things.
