ok done! Just to be clear, the trimming that took me so long was just to fit my exhaust, and would have been required on any version, since i believe original cutout is sized for a cylindrical exhaust.

Painting was done in the alley, and this worked well enough. Tried a few different paints, found that spraycans that advertised "bonds to plastic" worked very well.

The left side of the car has okay fitment. as has been discussed, the original RE amemiya version fits poorly here as well. The right side actually fits very well.





Now for the bad: the middle has a huge gap to the bumper. it might be possible to make this fit, but it would require distorting the bumper plastic a lot. However, the gap cannot be seen unless you get right under the car. because the diffuser edge sits above the bumper, it looks totally fine even if you get right down on the ground next to it.


In conclusion: its okay. The exchange rate and shipping costs to canada made the shine version significantly more expensive for me than it would have been for americans. I saved about 300$canadian. YMMV.

 

That turned out quite well in my opinion. The left side looks like the manufucturer or someone took off just a tad bit too much material, hence the reason why we try to leave material where we reasonably can.


The cost to ship a diffuser to Canada is $265 from our facility through Fedex and that includes the cost of the box and the packaging materials. $265 is quite a bit and it is very expensive just for a diffuser as it is 75% of the price of our diffuser. It would only make sense if there were a group of individual who wanted the same item as we can probably fit 3-5 in one box safely. This is why we try to encourage group shipping to help everyone save.


What was the price of this diffuser shipped to Canada if you don't mind me asking?

Any waviness in the part? Heavy? Light?

no waviness in the part at all actually. it weighs maybe 15lbs?

cost to ship from china was only 154$can(!). conversely, the cost to ship the real RE one from japan was about 800$can :/

this part was made by a company called aerostop, which sells tons of RX7 frp and carbon fiber replica parts on ebay and aliexpress. Kind of odd since you basically can't own an rx7 in china at all due to restrictive import laws.

 

Thanks for the info. I've seen aerostop ads on ebay. Certainly not the best feedback on ebay, but the stuff is inexpensive.

I am really surprised they can air freight from China to Canada that inexpensively. What shipping company was used? Came in a box or just bubble wrap?

I know you're probably taking an educated guess, but 15lbs is definitely on the high side. I just weighed our FRP version and it is 5 lbs on the dot.

If it is indeed that heavy, they could be using a high production chopper gun technique, which results in a resin rich part. Just something to consider.

I'm not sure what the exact weight was, but it didn't seem excessively heavy. Shipping from china is always extremely cheap. Probably government subsidized. It came in an ordinary cardboard box that was just the right size. Not much protection but the shipping company wasn't to abusive luckily. I think it was just regular parcel post air mail ?

 

Hey Guys, Just wanted to give an update. Sometime early in the year (2017) we decided to improve fitment and created a new mold for the street diffuser, so it is less hassle for any potential customer trying to figure out the best way to install this. We added more material in common problem and areas and redesigned the passenger side of the rear diffuser a tad bit so it covers more. Less chance of having gap issues with the new version.

 

Damn that looks good. What's the going price for these?

I have been on the fence between yours, and a "ebay" version. But now that you have taken action to improve yours for fitment, i think i will have to support that effort with some money to backup the R&D. I probably wont make it this shipment, but ill try to get my hands on one from them before spring next year.

Thanks for posting photos and pictures of the results! It really remove all concerns over spending the extra money on your version.
(I really wanted the real and genuine RE-Amemiya, but no possible shipping method form japan and here makes that impossible)

 

Honestly. If the reality is the same as these pictures (which I expect it is) this is BETTER fitment than the RE-A.

 

Yeah, i know But i dont like to buy copies. Tho, in this case, after the refinement done by Shine, i feel that they have done more to make this a quality piece available to me than RE-A did, and i have no issues with that.

 

We also offer carbon ones, which I believe RE-Amemiya never offered. I don't blame them. It is a very difficult piece to produce. It is definitely one of our harder pieces to make.

We're known for making very good quality replicas and more often than not, our version is better than the original versions. It is not very often you'll find a replica company able to make that claim . That is not a knock on original versions. Anything coming out of Japan is very good quality for the most part. We just improve on them where we feel necessary.

 

Bumping this agian to ask if the holes for the tow hooks are premade, or marked where i need to cut?

 

I've owned a couple of these and no holes for tow hook are precut AFAIK. I guess it makes sense, why would the precut a "hole" when that location/size would be different depending on which tow hook you were running.

I would guess the OEM ones. Since they make a point about how to strap it to a trailer in the user manual, i suspect all FDs have them same ones from factory
