wing diffrence

I just bought a T2 wing and the seller told me after I hade bought it that it is a JDM s4 T2 wing and says that the wing is taller then the other usdm T2 wings he has. so my question, is there any differnce in the jdm wings and the usdm wings.

RETed 12-01-07 08:01 PM

If the rear spoiler is stock, there is NO DIFFERENCE.

As a rule, question ANYTHING that states it's "JDM".

Is it a wing or a spoiler?

HAILERS 12-01-07 08:46 PM

It does NOT have flaps and slats, so it must be a spoiler.

Spoilers have Gurney wings.

NZConvertible 12-01-07 09:17 PM

Another "JDM" sucker... :(

black_88 12-01-07 09:33 PM

no you got it wrong I dont care if it is or is not JDM. I just tought it was wierd that the japnese one whould be taller then the other ones. and it is the stock s4 T2 one I dont know if you could call it a wing or a spoiler :dunno:

A wing does not necessarily require flaps and slats. Besides, the automotive market has its own warped definitions of wings and spoilers because many of the manufacturers do not know or care about the actual function of their products. I still find it strange that a retailer can sell a "wing" that is a non-functional oxymoron.

The Gurney trailing edge device is a flap, and none of the stock RX-7 spoilers have this device. ;)

The reason I asked the question of the original poster is because a "wing" type spoiler was offered as a dealer-installed or customer-installed aftermarket accessory on the U.S. models, and there may have been a larger Japanese version of this product.

I think that one is ulgy.

especially on RX7's. The RX is as JDM as it can be. It WAS built in Hiroshima after all. I have a different wing that has Mazda on the bottom but it's not JDM, just some S4 FG mazda wing, maybe you just bought that (best case scenario). :dunno:

Got pics?

I just noticed he told you it was JDM after you bought it, so I guess you're not a sucker after all. ;) The same can't be said for the people who buy stuff labelled as "JDM" by shiester sellers when in fact is isn't.

It seems nobody even knows what JDM means these days. The term Japanese Domestic Market applied to cars means cars that were sold in Japan, i.e their "domestic market". It does not apply to cars made in Japan and sold elsewhere, and it doesn't apply to aftermarket parts either.

I once saw an ad on craigslist for a JDM Ford Escort......... no joke.

Yes, those do exist. If it was sold in Japan, then its JDM.
Of course it was probably a sales gimmick.

black_88 12-01-07 10:53 PM

wouldent the JDM version of the ford escort be the mazda protege?

Sideways7 12-01-07 11:17 PM

I'm pretty sure escorts were sold in Japan as well.

No, there is no such thing as a "Protege" in Japan.
Those things were called Mazda 323's.

I'd be scared of an Escort in Japan; look for the "COSWORTH" badge...ph33r.

Depends if it was a European Escort or a US Escort. The two are completely unrelated.

black_88 12-01-07 11:54 PM

my brother had an escort the motor blew because of the bad lifter design. so then he went and bought a supercharged miata and now he has just switched it over to turbo (in japan they are called the eunos :) )

In Japan, they are called Eunos ROADSTERs.
"Eunos" is a chain of dealerships that had exclusive rights to sell the MX-5 (and FD3S).
This is why the FD3S is known as a Eunos FD3S.
You could not buy an MX-5 or FD3S brand new unless you went to a Eunos dealership.
Calling it just a "Eunos" doesn't make any sense; the model name is actually "Roadster".

Dude, that's like strike 2...

no no

jdm means 1337 hax

Stop confusing them :3:rlaugh:

black_88 12-02-07 08:49 AM

no it is not strike 2 because you are seeing how much I actually care about that market and how they label things. this is why this whole conversation started. as I stated above I dont care if the wing I bought is or is not A true JDM wing I could care less about where is was built as long as it looks good.

A spoiler changes the car's overall airflow to reduce lift.

A wing creates downforce by itself which eventually translates to the rear wheels.

RX-7s use spoilers.

The S5 pyloned spoiler is more aggressive (sharper angle) than the S4. He probably had an S5 among S4s.
