Why premix?
Not to sound like a n00b or anything, but i couldnt figure out why everyone uses premix in their 7's. I havn't used premix in mine and it runs great.
|
Because many of us have torn down engines and seen what 100k+ miles of crankcase oil being burned in the combustion area look like.
It's not pretty. Premix engines come out looking more or less brand new on the inside. -=Russ=- |
it is also a preventive measure..since the engine is oil injected ..it needs lube ..somewhat like a 2 cycle engine..oil and gas..likes oil,but loves gas!..
|
few reasons,
1. omp breaks, 2. using s5 engine in a s4, and not wanting to swap front cover and s4 omp. 3. doing full emissions removal, and more of everything else.... and not wanting to rely on the stock omp 4. belive it works better then the stock setup. |
not knocking premixers but isnt it a pain everytime you fill er up? gotta be kinda wierd watching people watching you put oil in your gas tank!!lol. ive been seriously considering this mod. actually i just ripped my oil pan off and there was almost no sludge at all!! not bad for a 88. gotta love the previous owner that only put 45,000 miles unabused on it, woot, woot!!

can the omp be set up to use a separate reservoir of oil? or is that too much of a pita or not do able due to the placement of the omp?

I premix and still have the OMP working as well... So far after 10 years no ill effects. Seems to run better when I premix, or maybe I've finally lost mind. It is also has an added benifit for us guys with carbs, premixing keeps the normally fussy/sicky carb clean and fee moving. But you second gen people have no worries about that.

id love to see the answer to that question |
Yes it can, I believe I saw in a post someone had of a setup using the stock omp that would take oil from a seperate resevoir. I'm pre-mix, keep it simple. Put oil in the tank, the fill up with fuel. I dont' wanna have to pop the hood ever so often to check my other fuel resoir.

I don't find the premixing to be a pain except in sub-zero weather, and then it's more of an annoyance. But, then again, the FC normally doesn't go much of anywhere in sub-zero weather due to an inability to get it out of the parking lot. Right now I have a sloped driveway, so I could probably get it *out* of the driveway, but not back in.
Actually, I welcome the longer gas station stops. If I take less than 10 minutes to get gas, I'm in a *hurry* - I normally take my time, check all the fluids, check tire pressure if it's been a while, clean the windows, etc. -=Russ=- |

Anyone know exactly how that block works? Does it just block off the normal oil feed from the block and act as an extension for the actuator for the metering pump? Hmm to the FSM I go......
