Why might my plugs keep fouling up....?

I have been having trouble getting the car started if i dont start it like 3 times a day.
When i first change my plugs, the car runs fine. its smooth, and it starts up easly.

whatever happens, the car is a mission to start....and the plugs are dirty as hell when i pull them.

any ideas?

how do you know if the plugs are fouled?

nooo!!! The stock ignition is fine! Is the car modded? Factory spark plug wires? What vacuum are pulling at idle?

the plugs will be black instead of a nice orangish color. i killed a set of plugs in 5000 miles they were orangish but it helped i drag raced the car a bunch and road raced the car so it was on boost the whole time ;) your car will be hard to start and you'll notice misfires or backfires if the plugs are old. it depends how you drive your car if you drive it hard you might have to change the plugs every 5000 miles. if your car is turbo it will wear out plugs faster than n/a

everyone says factory is great but i dunno. it can't hurt to have an msd 6a in there :)

BlackFC_NYC 04-25-02 04:12 PM

How would i figure out now to check the vacuum at idle?
Yeah 6a sounds good. it cant hurt im sure. the stock ignition system is good though. But if it worth it if my fc isent really modded?

Aftermarket boost guage will tell you your vacuum at idle.

BlackFC_NYC 04-25-02 06:25 PM

OH YEAH! lol
yeah i have one ill check it next time i drive it.
Have a flat now i have to wait till my tire comes in the mail.

Thanks

I finally remembered to check the vacuum at idle...
and its about 11-13 or so. depending on what is wants to idle at.

Fouling plugs is a major problem if you're running stock plugs.&nbsp Hell I run all 9's and they are not even close to getting black.

Are you running and upgrade fuel pump?
Is your motor ported?&nbsp 11" - 13" of idle vacuum is awefully low for a stock port engine.

I belive it have mild street port. This motor came from CosmoBoink's car. Right now my fuel pump is stock.
I plan on changing my plugs this week, ill let you know how black they are.

So how would i be able to change that. why would the vacuum be so low?

Make sure you get rid of all the potential intake vacuum leaks.&nbsp You might want to double-check your ignition timing also; ignition timing off-spec amazingly changes idle vacuum readings.

What kinda boost gauge are you reading off of?&nbsp (I hope it isn't an Autometer!)

i have a SPI boost gauge.
my timing is alittle "retarded".......so i guess that might factor in.
