Why do I have a telescoping steering wheel?
When I pull on my steering wheel it moves back about a half of an inch. The shaft is moving inside the steering column.
I bought the car like this. Anyone know what it could be? I have the thing apart and can’t see anything that needs tightening. Thanks, Jason |
two bolts holding the steering column up to the car's body and dash are loose.
Pull the column cover and you should see the two bolts pretty easy |
is this always the case Icemark?
Because my bolts are all tigh yet it will moves about 1/4 of an inch forward and backward? Does everybody's do this my frenids does it as well? Jeffrey |
Those two bolts are tight.
The shaft is moving inside of the steering column on the axis of rotation. |
no, not everyones is like this. I've got an '86 base and the wheel is tight like a tiger.
|
Hmm, I'll double check and see if anything else can cause this.
Are these tilt wheels or normal? |
normal
|
mine are both tilt!
|
If the car was in a front-end accident, the steering column can crushed a little.
