Why did Racing Beat Supply A Block-Off Plate For My ACV W/ My Header?
Is that to say with the Install of the Header, It will render my ACV useless? If anything, they should have supplied a block off plate for my EGR b'c w/o the functioning of the Split Air Port, that the Header Is blocking off, It Is making my EGR Valve useless!
I mean, I have no plans of removing my ACV or the EGR Valve. Although I was contemplating with the EGR Valve while the Intake was removed on my 88 GXL but I wanted conformation before I do this aswelll. |
I got the same thing from them . If you have emissions where you live dont take it off!!!
|
Why are you bitching about something that is free???  Sheez!  Can't win either way...
When you buy their header, it's assumed you don't need emissions.  Technically, your car should fail a (visual) emissons test.  Therefore, it's easy to assume you don't need the ACV.  If you read the fine print, I believe RB does state the block-off plates comes with the purchase. Sell it to someone who needs it and make a few bucks - there's people on here who are always asking about block-off plates. -Ted |
Who's Bitching? You have this all wrong. I JUST wanted to know the status of the ACV & EGR Valve AFTER the Install of the Racing Beat Header!!!
Even for that matter, you still didn't answer my question(s). |
Good grief, why are you guys all so damn touchy?
Go ahead and use the ACV and EGR after the install.. Enjoy! Have Fun! Merry Christmas Sheesh. |
The ACV just routes air, has NOTHING to do with your headers, so yes it will still function.
|
If you have a header, may I assume you didn't get the $400 Mazdatrix catalytic converter (you know, the ONLY one that bolts up to the stock catback as well as the header)? On that note, you have no cat, no split air pipe, so no need for the ACV. If you have the header, yes, the ACV still functions, but it don't do shit w/o the split air pipe.

I am still using my ACV & EGR Valve and no, I have a S.S Hi-Flow Cat that I had welded on to the Split Air Pipe.
I only raised this thread to know my current status of the EGR Valve, considering the Header Is blocking of the fresh air exhaust port In the exhaust engine casting. I guess It was assumed that Racing Beat thought I was not running my ACV. It didn't occur to me that I would be getting something for "free" Indirectly. |
Also, that was an Interesting point about the split air pipe only gets air in 5th gear, NZConvertible. I did not know that. How Is that regulated or controlled?
|
The ECU controls it. There's a switch on the trans that tells the ECU when you're in 5th.
|
Yes, the ECU controls It through the switch when In 5th gear, but then In turn what happens? Does a vavle open up? If so, which one?
|
The Split Air Solenoid Valve is built into the ACV.
|
ok, so i live in cali, need to retain my catylitic converters. But let me get this straight, the block off pipe replaces the catylitic converters? If it does, wil there be a problem if i dont put that picec on? Will there be any significant power decrease without that particular piece? thanks

oh ya silverrotor or anyone else for that matter. whoever who has installed a header before, was it a challenging project? can it be done with handtools in a driveway, or is it reccommended that one goes to a professional to install it, i have the time and patience to install it, but not so much the knowledge, i am sure that i could figure it out, but what it safer?

PUTTING A HEADER IN FOR THE FIRST TIME IS A BIT CHALLENGING DUE TO THE lack of space for tools but id say on a scale of 1-10 its a 4.5 only thing that kinda sucks is getting that pesky heat shield from around the manifold whoa its a pain.
jack |
Lucky for me, my heat shields were not there to begin with. Access to the 4 nuts were a breeze If working from below. Although I managed to break one of the threads that held the Exhaust Manifold. I guess I didn't realize my own brute strength!
Lining up the RB Header with my 2.25 exhaust diameter was another matter! The Header flange Is massive and found It difficult to match It's size. |
