I ran a 9.5
in the 1/8 |
A bunch of us brooklyn, guys are planning a track day at the end of march. Im hoping for 12's with my new setup, hopefully itll be done by then :(
13b-re chipped tii ecu 14psi apexi front mount soild diff mounts competition motor and tranny mounts miata short shifter I think i can make it, and im sure a half decent driver could. |
alright since terrh you basically posted what i was looking to ill add a question in the mix.. ive had an n/a for two years, anyways i bought a t2 motor and am using the n/a tranny with the act clutch route.. (ill also have a full tII driveline and tranny, if the N/a will not be fitting due to HP) ..ive been gathering some turbo parts here and there, and am wanting to know if i have all need to turn boost up on stock turbo , stock internals, and want to know the safest psi, and add something in if my list if its missing plz..parts list => downpipe, full catback exhaust, blocked emissions, guages, custom made fmic and piping, intake, blitzbov, turboxs manual boost controller, HKS fcd, portd wastegate , FD fuel pump.. do i need to possibly get something like the apexi safc and some larger secondaries, 720cc?

Huh? Periods mang, periods.
My GTUs/TII ran a 14.1 bone stock. Of course I wasn't driving it and 4.30 gears aren't really stock for a TII. |

Ive been gathering some turbo parts here and there. I am wanting to know if i have all the parts needed to properly, and relatively safely turn boost up on the stock turbo. The internals are stock also. add something in if my list if its missing plz.. parts list => downpipe, full catback exhaust, blocked emissions, guages, custom made fmic and piping, intake, efan, oil cooler, tII rad, blitzbov, turboxs manual boost controller, HKS fcd, portd wastegate , FD fuel pump.. do i need to possibly get something like the apexi safc and some larger secondaries, 720cc? |

20psi on stock S4 Turbo? :wtf1:

No I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm just like..why? Are there any advantages? I've always heard after about 12 psi it more or less just pushing out really hot air.
|
It is. Though, PSI is kind of useless in this situation, sure you may be throwing 20psi at it, but really the volume isn't changing much, it's just the stupid ammounts of heat creating all the extra pressure. This is what people use compressor maps for, to determine where the efficiency drops so much that the turbo simply starts heating the air over actually compressing and moving more volume.
|
 its gonna get ugly in here...
|
Why would it get ugly? Nobody is doubting that the stock turbo couldn't hit those PSI numbers, but that's completely useless. You can move the same volume at 13PSI as you can at 26PSI, the only difference is the ammount of heat acting upon that mass of air which causes the pressure increase. Sure you can get stupid ammounts of PSI from the stock turbo, but your power isn't going to get much further (if even at all), than at the peak of the turbo (which is generally around 14psi on the stocker). You can try to mask this heat with alcohol injection and a larger FMIC, but it's not going to save you that much.

people tend to get upset when they say there pushing the stock turbo past 12-14psi. .... i personally havent a clue...if he runs 20psi. thats great !! no grudge here :)

^^^ That's what I was thinking, I mean, 10psi from a HT-18s is very different from a T-51KAI @ 10psi nevermind the size difference. I am saying just by looking at the psi.
|
man the stock turbo can easily hit 20psi... who gives a rat's ass??? you're probably making the same power at 13psi
|
boost pressure != horsepower always.
I ran 15PSI on the stocker all the time, car was fast but it didn't last long :) I bet my new turbo (TD07-25A) makes more power at 5PSI than my stocker did at any pressure. Airflow is king. :) |

15psi on the HT18s might be 250 degrees (example) 15psi on a GT25R might be 150 degrees (example) hmm....the GT25R will make gobs more power...but wait you say. it's the same pressure. the air may have the same amount of pressure pushing air in, but the facts show that hot air has less "mass" than cold air. in the end, air mass and volume is what makes power, not pressure. ok, onto my 20psi situation...again..... put on intake and exhaust with the streetported motor and boost was creeping to 20psi. the motor didn't blow up so i kept doing it. then i finally got the wastegate ported but then it would only run stock boost which was slower..obviously. so i kinked the wastegate vacuum line so the WG would never open...bingo, back up to 20psi and at an earlier RPM than before. great midrange power there. now i have a profec b and have boost limited to 12psi. and like i said earlier, it feels just as fast, if not slightly faster, than 20psi. which i've been told a million times with no argument because i knew 20psi was bad. but i didn't care. it was faster than stock boost and i didn't have a EBC/MBC at the time. |
if there's a ! before the = it means "does not equal"
hehe. |
haha, didn't know that. sorry.
|
yeah.
welcome to turbos!!!!! |

kabooski i am curious as to what kind of power u had to run those times. please respond
|
those "times" are not a indicator of what i'm putting down
I "coasted" to a 11.59 ET I'm around 500 HP which with a clean pass and a good 60' foot (100% stock drivetrain) should be around 10.8 1/4 time My car with me in it weights a bit over 2900Ibs |
