Who has an FC with too many problems to list?

Just wondering who else here had an FC that they love to hate. Ive been toying with the idea of just selling mine for the last few months, but Ive already dropped to much into it to let myself do that. My car just has so damn many little things that need fixing. Sunroof doesnt work, antenna doesnt work, right now Im in the middle of getting the a/c working, but it has wiring issues or something. It runs rough with a bad idle, has a leaky exhaust. Needs new paint, cause its a bit rusty on the door and faded on the rear quarter panel. Transmission works fine but is noisy as hell, with nearly 200k miles on it. Much of the suspension is semi worn out and makes noises when going over bumps, and makes for a bit of a sloppy feeling. I keep springing fuel leaks, which will be fixed soon with a full fuel system upgrade. Much more to list but Im tired of typing. Most of the problems are fairly minor and nit picky, but are enough to make me want to sell it and start over with a different T2, or just go with my 2nd love, Miata. :wallbash: I hate RX7's..... though I have 3 lol

All of my problems are unknown unknowns. Since I'm rebuilding my first motor, I'm assuming that shortly I will have too many problems to list. As of yet, I don't know what they are, but I'm still trying to eliminate them.

Boosted11 08-15-07 06:53 PM

My motor just went and prior to that, I used a quart of oil a week. The air plug for my coolant is screwed up so its a pain to put coolant in. Drivers door and hood are spray painted so I need a paint job. Small dent on the right side of the bumper and a couple rust spots. Main console trm inside the car is cracked and not applied, so it just dangles. On the gear shift surround one of the tabs are broken. Gas lid popper doesnt work. Passenger door seizes up when its locked and someone trys to open it so I have to go inside the door internal everytime it happens. Theres what seems to be oil under the carpet behind the drivers seat. I think thats it but theres probly more I cant think of.

I have fixed many things on my FC since getting it, but everything was worth it.

ANY car with 200k on it is going to have issues and im sure you know that, is it worth it to you? My car has about 180k on it and has been as reliable as any Honda. I understand about the nit-picky things, sometimes they drive me crazy. BTW whats it worth to you? I could be in the market for a TII. As for the Miata, I love mine, and they hold there value, bullet proof reliability, great handling and gearbox, mood changing top down fun, and I think a nice looking car. However, my 87 RX-7 will run off and leave it pretty good.

JYM 08-15-07 07:22 PM

I don't love to hate my FC... but when I name all it's issues, I feel strangely proud...

I don't have A/C, one a-arm was cracked (I fixed it so it doesn't dangle anymore at least), my sunroof only works if I manually aid it (Ie. press open button..and push the sunroof along the track), my car always sputters and dies when I start it up cold (the first time, anyway... when I recrank it afterwards I keep the rpms up manually), my license plate lights don't work, I hear a strange grinding sound when putting the car in 5th (before even letting go of the clutch...), I have to manually turn on my e-fan with an interior switch, I seem to be losing a bit of coolant (not sure where the problem is), and there's probably some more that are going to pop up within the next few days.

I suppose there will always be someone with an FC that's in worse shape than yours..

TitaniumTT 08-15-07 07:57 PM

I need to
Finish the fuel lines, replace some brake lines, drop in the torsen, replace the front diff mount, rear diff mounts, subframe mounts, get a suspension (Stance ;)) finish wiring the interior, find the slow drain, finish the interior, finish the VMIC, duct the underside, mount both oil coolers, plum both oil coolers, duct the undercarriage, paint the nose, paint all the molding, build an exhaust system, build shrouds for need-a-t2's dual pop-ups, thin out the underhood wiring and the chassis harness, finish the underhood wiring, drop-vent and paint the hood, install a Motec, build a 2-stoke tank, build OMP lines, turbo oil feed lines, port the wastegate, rough-polish the intake manis, build heat-shields, ceramic coat the turbos/intake mani's/piping, wire up the digi dash, replace and calibrate the fuel gauge/sender, plug in the cig lighter and go.

feel better? I bet I forgot a few things too :D To many people rely on these cars for transportation and I think that's the problem. You need a good reliable car (Jeep) for DD so when things go wrong with the FC they don't drive you insane and can fix them at your leisure.

Slammedblk7 08-15-07 08:04 PM

I used to have a problem with killing the rear subframes, where the diff mounted to the subframe. That is until I welded that whore in 8 different spots to the subframe.

texFCturboII 08-15-07 08:10 PM

Need an AFM, TPS, and gotta replace the OMP (I've got it, it's just sitting there, I haven't found the time to install it yet.) Oh yea, I need a clutch slave cylinder too, and I've got a bad leak from the ABS pump, and the clutch starter switch is goin out. Hahaha, I love my FC; she's like my ex-girlfirend, constantly wanting my attention!

By the way, Slammedblk7, what kind of turbo is that? It's f-ing massive!

88rxn/a 08-15-07 08:22 PM

read my build up thread!!

that will explain ALL my problems!

I love to hate my FC. So far (2 weeks of owning it) the starter has given my fc a personality. It randomly chooses when to start. (when it doesnt, i tap the solenoid a couple of times and she always starts right up.) In addition there is air in my coolant system (due to my stupidity) and now she spews coolant and runs hot...hope its not a blown coolant seal.

WingsofWar 08-15-07 09:18 PM

i hate my FC so much i love it

FC keeps me in check if FC wasnt here to keep me pissed off 24/7....id have killed someone with my bare hands by now.

Taiwanese 08-15-07 10:26 PM

I just got mine...1991 NA.

Let's see...AC doesn't work, antenna motor keeps getting jammed, no backseats, body needs a lot of work, worn brakes, stock CD player doesn't work, need new clutch, low coolant, driver's door lock is messed up, need new exhaust system, had a flat tire and I'm running on a doughnut, front passenger seat bolt stuck, both seats are worn to hell, need new front wipers, interior too dirty, interior lights need wiring fixes, a bolt came off one of the headlights, need a paint job, power steering's not working, rear wiper motor not working, sunroof keeps getting jammed...

Time to start working. :)

NJGreenBudd 08-15-07 10:37 PM

two fc's. one got tired of taking my money so i got another one. they are only so much of a money pit as you let them be.

The Shaolin 08-15-07 10:40 PM

I do.

I can't list the problems. They are too numerous.

TehMonkay 08-15-07 10:51 PM

ECU needs to be regrounded, fix oil leak on front over, antenna is broken, sunroof opens only with assistance, vacuum leaks. I need to clean it real bad and there is 2 small rust spots on the car.

Nothing real serious. Especially with 168k on it. Thats what happens when the PO takes care of the car.

evileagle 08-15-07 10:54 PM

Everyone has an FC with too many problems to list.

That's how they work, and why we love them :D

Look at my title ;)

racerlinkfc 08-15-07 11:18 PM

love to hate my 7 that would best describe how im feeling well my suspension is worn i can totally hear it creek and making other noises . i recently swithed out my water pump new oem thermostat and had my radiator cleaned thoroughly now the dam thing looks like its having temp issues i know its not the water seals but who knows im about to upgrade my radiator to a koyo unit hopefully this remedies my temp issues . the only thing else i've upgraded is my exhaust and flywheel with a clutch package. anyone having any coolant issues ?

I love pop-up lights 08-15-07 11:35 PM

Missing trim on passenger side door, dent/bondo spot on pass door, passenger fender has a big ass dent in it, cracked turn signal lens, tail lights aren't flush, paint is badly oxidized and fading, little bit of petina on drivers side quarter panel, mismatched(black) TII hood, red interior(or what's left of it), seats cracked and stained, carpets stained and on thier way out, no stereo, speaker under glove box is chilling on the floor, red porno lights don't work anymore, missing visors, no shift boot, drivers side door handle broken, drivers side door panel not on, shifter really loose, had rear seats those are gone now, sunroof motor is going out, fuel and alternator gauges don't work, no a/c, OMP leak, I think there is a slowly leaking injector(if I don't run it for a week or two it floods), I still need to run a compression test and see how I'm doing there, running on phone dials(would be better if tires were wider and I had 4-piston calipers) 4-lug umm I think that's it, that I know of theres probably a plethora of other things I'm missing or don't know about yet. I'm looking forward to fixing everything, I'm in more of a I love to love my FC situation :D

KhanArtisT 08-15-07 11:44 PM

Maybe its an NA thing but the only problems I've had with my car is going through tires, gas and oil. 35,000 miles on a cheap basic kevin landers rebuild, rarely ever warmed up and its been ran hard on low oil a few times. Since I got the car I did clutch, fuel filter, plugs, wires, TPS, tranny (synchros) fixed the headlight relay when it went out and random cosmetic stuff. Everything is just so damn easy and cheap on this car its retarded. Its my daily driver and I beat the living dogshit out of it on my way to work, exit/on ramps, doing donuts, my local twisties, mountains and auto x's. 100% stock and original suspension with a racing beat exhaust -the header, aluminum motor mounts, hawk pads on stock rotors, falken ziex 512s (that lasted 7k  ) The only thing frustrating about driving the car is driving through traffic and worrying about cops. I still look forward to driving my car everyday, its a blast.

It looks like you just need a good parts car though, I personally wouldn't expect a working AC in a 20 year old car (although mine surprisingly works) unless it was my daily driver. I pushed my antenna down by hand the first day I got my car so it would never go back up, it looks goofy as hell to me and I never listen to the radio, damn commercials. Idle problems are a bitch, theres tons of things it could be, I have some BACs that you can have for the price of shipping though :) My idle bounces from 1300-1500 almost all the time, especially after I redline it, it just never bothered me enough to troubleshoot it..for the sunroof I'd try some lithium grease on the tracks and around the assembly and see if that does anything, it fixed mine and my friend's. If not then take out the assembly and clean it or replace it with a working one. Suspension components of a 20 year old car with 200k on it should feel sloppy and worn out.

I say give the car some downtime and work on it, browse the for sale section, prep the body and give it to a cheap body shop for paint and you should enjoy it a lot more. I've never expected anything but raw high revving, backfiring, lightweight rotary RWD fun out of my car. If you prefer more refinement in your sports car then perhaps this isn't the car for you. You may want to look into something newer or more luxurious. Good luck either way. RX7s are a blast when you fix them, learn how to drive them, and actually drive them hard. I've yet to drive another type of car thats as much fun to drive as my RX7.

NO A/C

For some reason the PO replaced the driver side door lock so it's a different key than the rest of the car (including ignition)

The stock suspension/ springs are so worn I sit lower than most riced out hondas

Leaking ABS pump - need to pull and replace w/ non-ABS system/ lines, which I cant do till I get some non- ABS hard lines. Which also delays my SS brake line install

Need to swap the rear hatch to get rid of a rust spot

Sun roof will open, but not close by itself

Sloppy shifter

No radio/ permanently errect antenna

oil pressure gauge doesn't work

Most warning lights to not work (except low coolant, brake and open hatch)

Idles @ 1,500

GXL wheels on 195's (it's a T II)

Jzavala 08-16-07 01:05 AM

in the same boat.
paint is shot, the driver and passenger doors are not stock, so the keys dont work on those and i dont have the key, i had t replace the power window rails since those gave out recently. the headlight motors were dieing till i replaced those, the front drivers side headlight motor drains the battery somehow. the wipers for some reason when on, fling themselves to the edge of the window, rear wiper doesnt work, got the froster working though. my brake lines had air in them when i bought it , and i had to replace the rear two rotors as well as all pads. i have no rear upholstery, the wiper switch doesnt work unless its on low(at all, 4 ways work though) cruse doesnt work. alignment is off as well. had to get two new tires since the previous owner though it was a drift car, as well as a driveshaft, the front u-joint bout chewed itself through. new clutch slave cylinder since that was leaking( i used a pipe clamp and clamped it down to the base of the cylinder, stopped that from ever leaking again.) i need a new clutch hose and brake lines, along with radiator hoses and i have to flush all fluids. my oil rad is all dented to hell and back on the bottom(they probably bottomed out a few times) and the rails that run along the bottom of the car are bent from some idiot jacking it up on them. the tranny is leaking from the output shaft as well. the joint things that join with the steering shaft are busted as well. the passenger and driver seat are all torn up, the dash is kinda beat up but relatively ok. ugh....and i still have another 10-20 things left to list at a minimum....fun project...all this on a 2+2 gxl. im gonna have FUN trying to find the rear upholstery.

josh...just josh 08-16-07 09:13 AM

1. Needs a new front bumper cover
2. the engine is in pieces, mostly in my closet at my apartment
3. the fender is in primer and has a dent where it met the door, the door has one too
4. no exhaust
5.the interior is shit-tastic
6. the two short times I drove it none of the gauges worked.
7. It;s far away
8. I dont have time/money to make it run

Hahaha, my thoughts exactly.:rlaugh: I've fixed most of mine though. I'm debating on what I want to get next though. I'm thinking it might be time for a few tires and then start getting body kit stuff so I can put it into paint soon (It's going out of order right now, but I have connections I'd like to use sooner rather than later).
