Whine from rear end! Advice?
Allright, the problem:
I accelerate from first, and one in fifty times, I get a "weeerrp" kinda whine (kind of a metal-on-metal sound) from the rear end that lasts about 1 second then goes away. I never get it in any other gear. I have just replaced the differential with a vLSD and a new set of 4.10 gears. New bearings, seals, synthetic fluid, everything. I cleaned it out for hours while I had it apart and kept all the parts in plastic bags to keep them clean. I took it to a shop to have it put together (set the backlash and pinion hight). Advice? Should I look elsewhere for the problem? Maybe its the tranny? Go yell at the shop? Punch myself for messing something up? What do you think? |
I'm no expert, but from the car's I've worked on I would say ether the LSD is breaking in or your trany might be grinding 1st check you bushing on you shifter.
sorry best I can think of. Mage |
Mage, thank you for your reply.
What do you mean by 'the LSD is breaking in'? Could you expand on that? I did not know that vLSDs needed or had a break in. |
dont know New stuff needs to be used and worn some I guess it's like our engines then dont perform good when there rebuilt/new untell there broke in then they run great I know some tranys I rebuilt need broke in that made a metel to metel sound becuse of the new gears in it but after about 200+ miles on it it stoped. it's just an idea like I said I'm no expert just going with what I have done in the past.

Allright, I suppose I'll just drive it for a bit and keep this GTUs spare I have around a bit longer before selling it (just in case)
Thanks! :) |
