what's the deal with the oil cooler bypass valve ?

So I was thinking of changing the oil cooler out because it is still original. I ran across this and was wondering if the change out was pretty simple OEM style.

Then there is the oil cooler bypass valve and it's application.. . . .Anybody got some info on this part?. . Is this only for cold days?. . .What's the dealio oil coolio ?

It opens at a specific temp, about 60 or 70c from memory.
its a good system, and inadvisable to go aftermarket if it isnt broken.

Unless there is a problem with the OEM oil cooler, I'd keep it. It's a quality part.

If you suspect it's dirty or clogged, you could always take it out and have it hot-tanked at a shop.

+1, also if the new cooler has no thermostat the Thermal Pellet in the E shaft should be removed as well

It keeps the oil in the keg til it needs cooling.
