what is a stand alone

so what is it,ive read through a kajillion posts and everyone says stuff like,if you put a standalone in an n/a,youl have good hp gains

Stand alone Fuel Managment system... You basically have full control over your ECU.

SureShot 03-18-04 12:13 PM

It is a computer that completely replaces your stock ECU.

You hook up the sensors, injectors etc, and map it however you want.

EG: Wolf, Haltec, Microtec...

Not to be confused with a piggyback system that adjusts the stock sensor signals to the stock ECU.

EG: S-AFC...

my question can you remove the MAF if you install a satnalone or a piggy back sytem like SAFC

jreynish 03-18-04 01:18 PM

You cannot remove the MAF with a piggyback... Most if not all good quality Stand Alone systems do infact eliminate the AFM.

is a standalone an advanced installation

jreynish 03-19-04 04:26 PM

only as advanced as hooking up a CD player in a car. If you can do that compotently then you should be able to install a stand alone.

:p:

So I guess I've done some advanced installation eh? I thought it was pretty easy (1st time too)...

RETed 03-19-04 04:51 PM

Well, technically, the installation is just hooking up the wires and sensors.

Making everything work well and reliabilty is a whole nother ball game.

I don't think most people can tune a stand-alone to make efficient power and work as close or better than the stock ECU on a daily driver.

Agreed I am alright, But I do have a little more knowlege than the standard owner.
He asked about installation, not tunning..... :)
TUnning is a fair amount more difficult than installatino!

Um, whats wrong with installing the microtech yourself, and using the pre-made maps and getting it professionaly dyno tuned? I know its a decent amount of cash, but well worth it I guess.

Or if you want... buy a portable wideband 02 sensor and hand held display.

ecu. i like the wolf 3d Version 4

There is nothing wrong with installing the microtech and using it's base maps and then getting it tunned. Nothing at all! But there is more to tunning rather than adjusting afr's!

superevil 03-20-04 03:31 PM

i bet the tuning would be hard, especialy since i have no idea how to.ill definitely get a good exhaust first.
