What is this plastic box found on non turbo and turbo cars/series four?

What is this box. Plastic box. It has it's name on it. It's found near the Knock box on a turbo. It is attached to the FRONT harness, passengers well, up and to the right?
It's name is MOTOR FAILURE. Sorry, but the engine runs just fine without it. Maybe a theft? suspension? whatever? box. The Mazda number can be read on it. |
Parts manual says A/T control unit for that part number
|
Hailers - I'd agree with RxSevenSymphonies. I can definately tell you that my FC did NOT have that anywhere at all forward of the seats (the knock box on a turbo is on the passanger outside footwell, right?) So it's probably an A/T unit. The only suspension thing that I know of is in the VERY back of the car, near the rear window washer resivoir, and that's a very large silver box, with connections at the bottom.

Yea for the turbo section it just says control unit with no explanation of what it's for, but didn't they have auto turbo's over in japan, so maybe they used the same control unit for it?
|
I did go to the parts fische AFTER you told me what it was, and sure enough it's for A/T cars. That's all I need to know. Once I saw A/T I lost interest. Just another plug to use as a source of power for ?????? whatever. Did I say THANK YOU? Thanks.

Well I'll be. I did some research in the free, online fsm, Chapter 36 of the 87 fsm to be exact, and it appears this item is a Anti-Motor Failure Module. As long as it's plugged in the harness, the motor won't fail. That explains why I have no motor problems. Thanks for the help. |
Better leave it plugged in then!
It is an incredibly bizarre name to print on the thing. Must have lost something in translation! If that "90W" printed on it means 90 Watts, it sure eats up a whack of power! 7.5 amps. |

wow! that was quick!
thanks hailer. |
does the knock box have a removable plate on the back?
|
How can something so little stop engine failure, I dont see it here!! If the engine is gonna fail nothing gonna stop it from doing it.

No no, HAILERS, you're missing it. The big one is the knock sensor, that senses the knock, and then tells the little box when it's time to blow the motor. Then the Motor Failure box explodes your car.

Sell it on E-bay as a special JDM module that ensures that your motor will not blow up. Some idiot would probly pay a bunch of cash for it.
|
yeah man you totally could! Custom JDM control module, senses health of apex, oil, and coolant seals and slows the engine if it senses failure!
$3999 |
i need to get one of them. is that buy it now or the auction price?

i think it is some kinda relay box for the auxillary fan BINGO! That's what it is for. My lazy ass never looked at the wiring diagrams and the wire colors off its plug. You be top dog bro. It's really a shame. I've looked at the electric fan schematic and even posted jpg's of it on the site, but never acutally looked for that Cooling Fan Control Unit. |
