What a/c compressor do i have??
Ok, so I have a dilemma. My mechanic told me I have a leak in my compressor. Ok, so I take mine off and go to O'reillys to match them up, AND they don't match! I called a few other auto part stores and they're pictures are the same setup as O'reillys. Sooo, I'm thinking i have different compressor or something??

there were 2 compressors, If memory serves me right one has the lines together and one the lines bolt on separate. here I searched for you:

if the car is an early car and has 2 separate lines to the compressor with threaded nut fittings then a denso will drop in, if it has both lines formed into a single connection then you will need to figure out which series sanden you need. the condenser and evap fittings should work with either compressor+line set you get, if there are no hardlines in the engine bay to the compressor you can just buy a matched set but you will have to notch the bracket if it was for a sanden to make a denso unit fit(did this on my girlfriend's car since her compressor seized up and used an early S4 pump on hers, the denso works better for R134a conversions anyways). |

nippondenso and what i call the sanden type 2 compressor. the type 2 was usually found on series 5 cars but sometimes you can find a type 1 on the early series 5. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...essors-948060/

you can see in the link, someone just removed the housing/hose adapters from your denso pump.

On another note, anybody know where to buy a Nioppodenso compressor? All I've seen are the Sanden types. I'm waiting for this local AC shop to open up so that I can ask them whether or not they can just rebuild the damn thing! |
Ok, so I finally got a chance to talk with a Local A/C specialist shop here in Dallas and from our conversation, he says that The Nippondenso 10P15C from the RX7 may the same ones they use for the Toyota 4runner. I've also looked at some on Ebay, and they look very similar. Does anybody know or tried this to see if it's true? I will be purchasing one in the future to confirm this will work or not.

Although I have limited knowledge on the subject, I do know our compressors were used on other vehicles.

i would be concerned about the mount points if it wasn't made for the RX7, plenty of the universal ones i see have vertical mount holes where the FC RX7 mounts through the side.
the older RX7s along with REPU, cosmo, 2,3 and 4 had the universal vertical mount holes since A/C was considered a luxury option and the kits looked like they were almost completely aftermarket. reconditioned Denso a/c pumps seem to be nonexistent, which sucks. both sanden types are fairly prevalent in the parts catalogues. you can always buy the S5 A/C and P/S bracket along with the high and low side lines and convert it if it came to that. the S4 bracket might even accept it but i don't recall if the pilot holes(unthreaded) will line up. |
You could always use a much more available Sanden if you can locate a manifold from a used one. Any reputable AC guy could make you up some lines for that conversion. If you can't find a used manifold, PM me.
