What brand of oil do you use in your FC?
Hey, I'm wondering what oil you guys use -- now I know that there was a thread about the weight of oil, but which type? I was thinking of going with the 10w-30 Mobil 1 for my n/a...
Mobil 1 is synthetic, my personal opinion is to stay away from synthetic for rotaries. Many will argue this, and many use it with good success, but thats just my opinion. I personally use Castrol GTX 20w-50.
Also, there have been many threads on this subject, you might want to read through them.. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...light=what+oil |
Same as RXmfn7 - Castrol GTX 20-50
castrol gtx 20w50 also
Following the trend here, GTX 20w50
You can use Mobil 1 not a problem. I use Mobil 20-50 non-synthetic in the summer and 10-30 in the winter.
Big surprise here, I use Castrol GTX 20W-50, and have ever since I owned the car.
i use valvoline racing formula 20w-50. i'm pretty sure it's not synthetic.
Castrol GTX 20W50 most of the year, and Castrol GTX 10W30 in the dead of winter
castrol gtx, 20w50...
noticing a trend....? |
Mobil 1 15W50 :)
castrol gtx 20w-50.... hmmm
vavoline 10w30 is what i use but i'm thinking about going to the racing formula for better protection in my higher miler, vavoline is a liquid base oil not like castrol which is powder base and will cake up when it is extremely over heated dont get caught in the trend
like IceMark 20w-50 the entire year except for winter when I use 10w-30, and like the rest it is GTX
castrol gtx 10w30
Castrol GTX 20W50 and Castrol GTX 10W30 in the winter.
Castrol GTX 20w-50. I feel trendy.
mobil 1 10w-30

pennzoil 20w50 non synthetic...
only 20w50 that comes in cartons around locally |
Castrol GTX 20W50 :D
....well...you guessed it....
Castrol GTX 20W50 ;) |
WOOT go pennzoil
and for that exact reason, I can't find non-synthetic 20w50 ANYWHERE aside from pennzoil. It's nice and cheap too.. if only I could get it in 4l instead of just 1l Originally posted by darkwaveboi pennzoil 20w50 non synthetic... only 20w50 that comes in cartons around locally |
on that note, is 15w40 thick enough? Because I can get rotella 15w40 in nice BIG containers that work out to being way less than pennzoil costs me.
And rotella is quality stuff... |
Valvoline 20W50 Racing (mineral)
I used to use Castrol 20W-50 but switched to synthetic. Right now I'm using Mobil1 15W-50. I've also used Redline but switched to Mobil1 because it's cheaper. I think the car runs better and cooler with the synthetic. We'll see what it looks like when it needs to be rebuilt.
Mobil1 20W50 Syn. ( no OMP- premix)
Mobil 1 20W50
I run Bomdadier Synthetic Premix! |
Shell Rotella 15W 40
or Castrol 20W50 |
castrol 20w50 all year. then again, we've used that in all our cars... except my turbo mazdas.
Looks like there are a few of us synthetic users around :)

is this reccomended or something???? |
GTX 20W-50
Mobil 1 syn. 15w50

castrol gtx 20w50 most of the year and 10w30 when it gets really cold
valvoline racing 20w-50

i feed my car castrol gtx 20w-50 :D
how come you guys dont use Valvoline Max life 10w-40?
thats what i use. should i switch? crap i just a case of it too. |
i don't know... i thougth about using max life...
but the commerical specifically states, vavoline max life helps old engines feel new by reconditioning seals. Fine i like that. But then they said it reduces oil burn off That is bad... rotaries inject oil during normal opertaion. So that means that the oil isn't burning away clean. That is bad. |
