Went To The Track and Found a Problem...

Well me and a few friends went to the 1/8 mile today and my car wouldnt run right on the track. I usually launch around 4500 but if i launched over 3000 my car would sputter and hesitate all the way down the track. i left for a minute to see if it would do it on the street but it wouldnt if i was just driving then got on it, but when i launched it above 3000 from a stop it would do this. After I realized that it only did this when i launched it hard, i eased off the line and then stomped it, synchros are almost out so i had to shift into 2nd at 6000 when i usually shift at 7600, and either had to stay in 2nd or slam it into 3rd. my best time was 10.0 at 73 MPH. Does anyone know why it wont run right if i launch it hard?....

Sounds like TPS to me. Adjust it to 1 volt on a warm engine.
Ever try that pennzoil syncromesh in the tranny?

z4csl428 11-14-04 09:31 PM

im heading out to buy some and put it in the tranny tomorrow. do you have the stuff to read the TPS so we can adjust it, mike?...

z4csl428 11-15-04 02:37 PM

...

z4csl428 11-15-04 04:52 PM

any suggestions other than the TPS?...

Sacker90 11-15-04 06:47 PM

I got a meter at our house mr. clint lowe if you wanna come by tomorrow..

mwpayne 11-15-04 09:58 PM

Got a tired tranny trying to limp the car around until you can get a proper replacement and you're doing 4krpm launches and redline shifts at the racetrack? :nono:

HAMMER DOWN SON!!!!!!

Kingofl337 11-16-04 06:23 AM

Yeah its not like you'll be stranded when the internals grenade.

z4csl428 11-16-04 02:13 PM

gotta keep the car on its toes....

z4csl428 11-16-04 02:36 PM

what is a proper replacement for my transmission kevin?
oh and if mine blows up again youll let me take care of the 3rd gen until you get mine running again right?...

RotaryResurrection 11-16-04 03:33 PM

gotta keep the car on its toes....
I guess...

what is a proper replacement for my transmission kevin?
A low mileage clean used one, a rebuilt one, or a turbo II drivetrain swap. IF you keep dropping in 150k+ mile used ones that are already on their last legs, you know you'll go right out and kill it when you're driving the car hard. Common sense.

z4csl428 11-16-04 05:19 PM

do you know of anyone around here that rebuilds them, that you would trust?...

RotaryResurrection 11-16-04 06:22 PM

Not right off, no.

mwpayne 11-16-04 06:51 PM

Ah, soo..team redline...velllly fast!!!

z4csl428 11-16-04 07:30 PM

so could anyone give me a good estimate for what i should expect on a tranny rebuild?....

DerangedHermit 11-16-04 07:36 PM

The local guy I asked said $1300. In other words... get a TII drivetrain.

z4csl428 11-17-04 09:10 PM

we read the TPS and it read 1.384 volts we turned it down to as close to 1.000 volts as we could get. it seems a little smoother but i havent tried any crazy launches, for anyone that knows a lot about our TPS's how far off exactly was it?...
