weird electrical problems
Ok, I FINALLY got to the point that i can install and hook up the battery! YAY!! I made a buss bar due to the relocation of the battery to the pass. side storage bin. Nothing fancy, just a block of steel with ring terminal style battery cable ends. Hooked to said bar are the batt. positive cable, the power to the underhood fuse box (the little wire thats with the starter cable on the factory positive cable on the battery), the thicker wire on the factory positive battery cable post (i think its the starter cable, lol) and the constant 12v supply to the Haltech.
I wired the switched 12v for the haltech into the EGI fuse wire (the white one with the stripe, for simplicity) and i hooked up the factory alternator wires to the alternator. I made pigtails and new wiring for the alternator, and was going to splice into the EGI wire again for switched power to the L and R terminals, and was going to run the Alternator output wire to the buss bar i made, as it would just send the power back to the alternator.
So far, seems like its going to work. I connect the negative cable, and then the positive cable. HONKKKKKK!!! The horn starts blowing constant!! I unhook the batt. positive cable, then the horns, and reconnect the batt positive cable. A warning buzzer "beeps" 3 - 4 times, and the left side turn signal is flashing constant. The switch was off. All external lights work, turn signal indicators work. Headlight motors work, horn works, but the windshield wipers are inop. All interior lights do not work, no power to the aftermarket gauges (which are just spliced into the dash fuse for now). No interior dome light, and the starter wont engage. No clicks or anything! Hazard lights flash properly, too.
I am at a loss right now guys. Has anyone who did a haltech experienced this before? It almost sounds like i dont have something hooked up. I left the warning cluster unhooked, but i dont think thats whats causing this.
This was definately a bummer for me. In the back of my head i knew there would be electrical gremlins, but i was hoping for simple ones. Also noted a solder type smell. I dont think anything was melting - as i had been soldering earlier, but still, kinda odd.
So any ideas? I am going to sleep on it and maybe try the alternator wires i made........SIGH

sure you didn't hook up backwards??? Remember the FC battery terminal are backwards comparied to most cars.
The problems with the horn and turn signals suggest the CPU is damaged as well as the wiper switch. Either that of the factory security system was triggered (but there would be other things happening then as well).

Icemark, would damage to the haltech cause that? I dont have it wired to control any of that. I am just controlling engine functions with it. The positive cable on the battery had 2 cables going to it correct? And the negative had just one? There were somethings wired to the battery terminal (batt +) when i got the car, and those were still there. Thats the one i used as the power to starter and other things. One thing i did not do was to ground the factory battery cable, do you think that could cause any of it?
