weapons r cold air intake

has anybody used this cai on there 90rx7. u can look at it under 2kracing.com, let me know what you all think. thanks

It's not a cold air intake. Its a short ram intake, which means its a ricer pipe and filter setup. You're better off just buying a K&N filter.

masao 10-02-05 12:11 AM

Whats the difference between short ram air intake and cold air intake? Is there a power difference?

Cold air intake will always provide better performance. A short ram is just a steel tube with a filter on the end of it mounted inside the engine bay, still draws in hot engine bay air. Cold air intakes (CAI) are mounted with at a source of fresh air...air outside the engine bay is cooler, and denser. More cool air is a good thing.

masao 10-02-05 12:22 AM

So the only difference is the length of the pipe and the placement of the filter...

RX7FROMCAL 10-02-05 12:23 AM

i guess my next ? would be , being that my stock air intake tube goes down on the right side of the car with my red cone filter , the weapons r intake would sit in the same place , just look nicer than that peace of crap stock one huh???plus if its a short ram , then would the afm fit on the weapons and the filter fit in that spot?

yes sir, if you can get it to fit behind the front grille or like the wheel well area (make sure you put a water shield on), it would be great. The colder the air, the better your gas burns, and the more power you gain.

RX7FROMCAL 10-02-05 12:26 AM

plus they say its carb legal in all 50 states, and im also wondering being i have all my smog hoses hooked back up , does it have the two inlet hook ups for the smog pump hoses that hook up like my stock one does??

masao 10-02-05 12:30 AM

Cool. Now how can I build a water shield that wont inhibit the air flow?

Makenzie71 10-02-05 12:33 AM

unless you intend to submerge the front of your car in water there's no point in worrying about a water shiled. People with piston engines use them and liquid traps to keep water out of the combustion chamber because water does not compress easily...which leads to hydrolocking, which leads to bent rods and damaged pistons and valves. Rotary engines do not hydrolock.

Also do you know where to get a Cold Air Intake for FC, and who makes them?

Noone makes them anymore, noone will pay a decent price for one so anyone that offers one soon realizes its not profitable and stops making them.

VinSpeed sells a cold air box for $60 shipped.

"Short ram" is just a load of typical marketing BS aimed at suckers who know nothing about cars. There is absolutely no "ramming" involved.

RXSevenSymphonies 10-02-05 04:27 AM

Except in the ass.

BlackTurbo2 10-02-05 07:36 AM

Just gut all that junk, like the resevoir underneath the headlight. Then use a hole saw and make a 3" hole. Fab up some piping to route the filter behind your bumper where that resevoir used to be. buy some weatherstripping to use around the jagged edges of the hole you made to make it look pretty, buy some couplers, a cone filter, and you have a "cold air intake" =o) Just an idea... I did this on my old GTU a long time ago.

Yo yo thats a Honda ricer thang. AEM makes sum intake kits. One is called Cold Air System (CAS) and one is called Short Ram System (SRS). The Weapon-R intakes r made by a totally different place. Calling a Weapon-R intake a SRS is like calling a Chevy an RX-7.
http://www.aempower.com/product_intake.asp

Like u said there is no real ram air on the SRS kits. Ricers = liars.

Teh CAS kit doesnt have any cold air either. Its just that it doesnt have hot air. A REAL cold air intake has air colder than the air outside, and you gotta have CO2, NOS, or something like that for it 2 work.

Tell that to japanese, most of them use an HKS Short RAM

no ones answered my question on this yet, does any one have a idea?

There is no ramming. A ram air kit is just a replacement pipe and filter that eliminates the stock air box. No air is being rammed.

You're an idiot.

In some cases, the SR is preferred over the CAI due to inlet tract length tuning. The power advantage gained by using the correct diameter and length of tube negates the advantage of cooler inlet air in these cases. Some companies only offers SR's in some cases because there is no advantage to using the CAI.

Yes it doesnt ram any air but how cold is 90 degree ambient air.

Proof? Intake tuning has almost no effect what so ever on the air side of the throttle body because there's a bunch of butterflies in there that get in the way. That's why intake plumbing before the throttlebody is always 3" or bigger with aftermarket intakes...there's a big ass restriction right in the way so they want the easiest flow possible.

Some companies offer only short rams intakes for some cars because they don't see much effect with CAI's...but that lack of change in effect has nothing to do with how long the tubing is or where it's routed.

Much colder and denser than the 180* air in the engine bay. Plus it's one hot motherfucker if the ambient temperature is 90*...there aren't many places in the states that see that kind of ambient air...there's aren't many civilized places that see that kind of ambient air...
