Water Pump Pulleys
OK, I am trying to install the water pump pulley. But it will not clear the e-shaft pulleys. I don't remember this to be the case when I took the original engine out (but then that was three years ago).
Does the e-shaft pulley have to come off first? Or can I just remove the water pump pulley/fan studs and work the pump pulley assembly over the eshaft pulley? Or could it be that I have the wrong pulley on the new engine? Any thoughts? |
Well, I answered at least part of this question myself.
After removing the studs on the water pump, I still cannot get the pump pulleys to clear the e-shaft pulley. So I have to remove the shaft nut and the pulleys. Hope they are the right eshaft pulley assembly for the car because the old ones went back with the engine. |
Leave the e-shaft pulley hub in place, remove the four bolts holding the pulley to the hub instead.

But before I tried to remove the hub bolt (I'd remembered what a PITA that was...) I decided to read a few posts here and found multiple threads stating the same. When I went did go to remove the main pulleys, I found that there were only two bolts holding it and they were both fairly loose. I imagine Mazda had already anticipated this. Now I need to go out tomorrow and try to find two #8 bolts. Thanks again. |
The four pulley bolts are 6mm x 1.0, maybe 20mm long.
