Walbro fuel pump's making noise?
Hey guys I havent been here in a while, been really busy, whats up?
Anyway, my fuel pump went last week and i replaced it with a walbro i got on ebay. I just installed it and noticed, this thing is fuckin loud. I can hear it from outside the car, is this normal? Has this occoured with anyone elses walbro? Also, something im more concerned about, I ahve alot fo rust on the insid eof my gas tank. How worried should I be about this? I mean theres a filter on the pump and another inline, is there anything to worry about? |
Get used to It - the Walbro Is loud, especially when It's priming the Fuel System ie. turning the Ign ON only will show how loud It Is without any external sounds.
As for the rust - I removed the assembly entirely with all the fuel from the tank. I than doused the tank with 100% Isoprophl alchol and I vacuumed all this out repeatedly. I did this several times to get all the sediments out before I dropped In my new Walbro, not for any rust thankfully. Maybe you want to drop your tank? I know, easier said than done. :) |
You mean whinebro, right?? :)
|
Walbro's are naturally noisy.
how much rust, is it scaley and coming off? if it isn't and there isn't rust particles floating around in the tank i wouldn't worry about it. |
Read here If anyone has trouble removing the damn phillip screws to the tank cover!

Put the original fuel pump back into the car and sell the Waldo. You don't need the noise.

My walboro can be heard over my exhaust.... its loud... Lol

Maybe try a different pump, such as a nippondenso? -Justin |
As my signature says, I have two and 1/2 turboII and no Waldo. Don't need one, Don't want one. And if someone gave me one......I'd take it and sell it for the dough.

Uh ok, no need to come back with an attitude dude.
Have fun blowing your motor when you run out of fuel. -Justin |

The walboro is an economical and solid option for those that aren't bothered by the extra noise and require a higher flowing pump. Rather than take a dump on it why not explain where you're coming from and how you've managed to get your stock pump to keep up? |
What about the Rotary Performance pumps? Any good, they claim its better than a Walboro, is it quieter?

And i find it highly doubtful that a stock NA fuel pump, let alone a TII fuel pump will be enough for his NA/TII Conversion, I might be wrong, and correct me if i am, but i'm sure he will want to crank the boost up a little, therefore needing the extra supply to meet the demand. :edit: I'm not saying he needs a walboro, but an aftermarket, or even an FD pump to meet his needs. -Justin |

I've used 2 stock pumps and they consistently ran out of steam in the higher rev ranges at about 11-12psi. Not by much but to the point where I was worried about hot runs. I now run the walboro with no problems and while the noise is there it doesnt outweigh the peace of mind. |
