Variable Resistor!?

Whats up guys. i've been looking at this thing for a while wondering what it is.

Its a part that is on the pass side strut tower and has L and R on it and you can turn the top of it to adjust it.

haynes manual says its a variable resistor and leaves it at that.

What is this and what does it do?

the variable resistor controls the idle fuel mixture. (R)ich (L)ean. You shouldn't have to mess with it, check the FSM link for testing/setting.
