V8 Conversion

I was wondering if I would be able to put a chevy 350 V8 into my 1989 turbo II. Any advice would be very helpful, of course I will need lots of hints, and Sources!

thanks

Be warned, your gonna get flamed for it. Do a search for engine swap. This has come up before and people will be pissed that your slapping a V8 into the ever so rare S5 TII.

Actually I know a guy who took a 350 block, bored it to 360 and put it in a TII. He is running like 8.5s in that biotch, with a 175 shot 'o NOS. you can fit the 350 in the engine bay but to fit it under the hood you have to cut a hole in it and put one of those huge *** cannon intakes on it to fit a breather and the carb. They sound so cool. The V8 noise coming from that small of a car and the look on the peoples faces when it rolled by were priceless. I wish you the best of luck. I will contact the guy and see what all he had to do to it for ya. This seems to be an interesting project.
regards,
Charles

Please do not do it. I just got back from the junkyard, where this complete RX& 'vert lay, Her heart had been ripped from her and half laying in her engine bay was a 350 BOAT ANCHOR. Another half cocked, underfounded, over ambitious product claims a REX. Not to worry, she donated many organs to Keep my cars hearts beating for many years.

STOP THE INSANITY!!!!!!!!!

If you insist please make sure you have the time, money, patience and Know how, tools shop space to complete the project. DO NOT PLAN ON DOING IT IN YOUR MOMMY AND DADDY"S DRIVEAWAY WITH YOUR BUDS IN 2 WEEKENDS.

I agree about running a search. I seen a post on here under 2 weeks ago where a guy was swapping an LT1 into his REX. I already have an LT1 in my T/A and I want a REX and here you are having a REX and wanting an LT1 engine. I cracked the heads on my engine a month ago so if you need an LT1 Block, Rods, crank, etc. I'd consider selling you my shortblock. I have a NEW engine on the way, forged 355, this was built specifically for FI applications. So once I get that dropped in, I'll start saving for the REX. I know its been done, but damn, how do you fit an engine that HUGE into a REX? I like the rotary because its so compact. Could probably fit 3 of your engine's in my T/A bay.

Got a friend that has a 400 sitting in his RX. He bought it that way. He is transfering his built 350 into it when ever he gets off his butt to do it. It will be quick. I rode in his Camero when he had the 350 in it, and it was very fast. Now he is tossing it into a car that is a good bit lighter. This should be interesting.

Good luck with the swap. Hope it works out for you.

I thought we traded out those "troublesome" rotary engines for one of those "reliable" piston engines. Maybe not?

Hehe, at least I can keep laughing at the boat anchor crowd who think they can out engineer what's already there.

Monney456- If you are serious about the conversion than please visit the V8RX7 messageboard at the following link:

Please read some the threads before posting a question like "I'm doing a V8 swap..... what do I need?"

1st question and most important question: How much can you spend and what budget are you currently working with? That will determine whether you are going to go EFI or carb'd.

Ford 302's won't clear the factory FC hood and require either a scoop or a bulge cut into it.

All other Chevy 283/327/350/400 smallblock carb'd (with correct air cleaner/intake), LT1/LS1/L98 (EFI motors) will fit under the stock hood.

Some V8 conversions have been done for around $1500 with tons of owner fabrication. However just off hand I'd say about $5K is a good number to shoot for to do it right and not Mickey Mouseing anything. This will yield a low 12 second car that has double the torque of the 13B turbo, probably twice the HP, gets 20mpg+ on the highway, and will be a serious car to not mess with.

My recommendation would be an LT1 iron block/alum heads ('93-97 Camaro engine) with a T-56 (6speed). THey can be purchased together for around $2500 with everything you need and around 50K miles on them. An LS1 all aluminum engine (65lbs lighter than LT1 plus better flowing heads) is around $4K-5500 from a '98-02 Camaro. E-bay is a good place to look for them and your local high performance dismantler/salvage yard also!

You can email me privately if you have any ?'s. However state your budget in the email.

No kidding, why not just buy a base model with a blown engine? Sheeze... I hate it when people part out their cars or do this..
