Used 2nd gens, what part broken most often?

this is a poll for what is broken most often on used 2nd gens

here is my list,

on all 3 of the 2nd gens ive owned they have all had this broken:

all 3 had: 1 broken door handle, broken radio surround, broken radio antenna, broken console, missing demister grilles, idiot light surround, sun visors gone or broken.

what about you guys??

FEDREX 01-27-02 05:54 PM

I would add these:
power window switches
wiper switch
differential mounts
logicon
power window regulator

supergoat 01-27-02 06:30 PM

Anything that gets held in by screw breaks at the point the screw goes in I've noticed.

Wankel7 01-27-02 07:07 PM

The part that breaks the most....the 2nd gen. Can the car be considered a part? :)

James

Maxthe7man 01-27-02 07:22 PM

I would have added exhaust/6 ports to the poll...Max

vaughnc 01-27-02 08:16 PM

Most of that stuff is what happens when you let your car bake in the summer heat. I'd invest in an rx7 carpet dash cover from Victoria british, a tint job, etc..

I'd say the #1 thing is the engine wiring harness managers (no big woop), paint above the exhaust pipe, hatch struts, power window linkage, etc..

go_speed_go 01-28-02 07:06 AM

Wow, all these posts and no-one has these yet:

- Headlight switch and harness.
- Radiator (those resin tanks are time bombs)

The Ace 01-28-02 07:58 AM

My vote goes to:..............

1) Wiper switch
2) Power antennae
3) Sun roof
4) Electronic Lock
.
.
.
.
hmmm....nothing else :D

tmak26b 01-28-02 12:30 PM

I froze 3 4 piston front caliper

SureShot 01-28-02 03:30 PM

All the switch mount posts on the inside of the dash cluster.
This kind of thing is normal for >10 year old cars.
By the way, I have a great fix – Bondo Marine Epoxy Putty Stick. You knead a small snake, wrap it around the post to beef it up. A whole new post tip can be formed with a short piece of tube (cut from a radio antenna) filled with epoxy putty. You mold the hole with a nail while it’s still soft.
You can reinforce any interior plastic with this stuff. Just mold a patch on the back side. If it breaks off later, rebond it with super glue..

SilverT2 05-26-02 05:28 PM

My vote goes for:

The owners bank account.........

The Ace 05-27-02 07:28 AM

Wowow, a thread from the grave, but it sure made me look back and realize how much I've replaced/spent on my Rex (in no particular order):

Power antennae
Clutch
Brakes
Door handles
Thermostat housing
Almost all rubber hoses in engine bay (kinda expected, but...)
Thermostat, O2 sensor, various caps and sensors

and I will need new oil lines and new rotors (just the rear ones, but I'll change them all with slotted anyway)

...and I still havent had the time to fix the wiper switch :(

Everything works fine now, hope it stays that way for a couple of months ;)

dre_2ooo 05-27-02 10:15 AM

WINDSHIELD WIPER switch!! :ar:

downwinddave 05-27-02 11:35 AM

Wow, I still have something to look forward too!
I have most of those...
I'll add:
top will not close...91 Vert.

E6KT2 05-27-02 07:36 PM

Hey, I've owned three (one was a parts car) and all three had no comp on rear rotor but I don't see that listed. How about making "rear apex seal" an option?:D

HAILERS 05-27-02 08:13 PM

1. Wiper switch (or its internal relays actually)
2. Logicon
3. Clock/idiot light assy (cold solder joints)
4. CPU (controls horn, idiot lights etc) cold solder joints.
5, The circuitry in the heater/air conditoning mtr housing(causes low fan speed).
6. The differentials front mount (only a gun pointed to my head will get me to jack my car using this point).
7. The a/c relay located in front of the radiator.
8. Acv on turbos (the switching diaphram gets cooked making it non-funcitonal. N/a's last forever).
9. Turbo's sliding roof (learned early not to open it fully and how to press down on it to make it shut).
10. Shifter bushings. The turbo's shifter was a guessing game until I put two conical bushings out of two spare transmissions in it. Used two top conical bushings salvage from the spare transmissions. Shifts like a champ now. (gonna buy the real bushings....soon).
But kudos to the ECU and the pop-up head lights that have never given any sign of trouble, never ever.

Roy James 05-28-02 12:21 AM

 my pop up lights dont work, permentatly rice, i mean sleepy :D

jreynish 05-28-02 12:33 AM

turbo II addict 05-28-02 07:48 PM

TonyTurboII 06-05-02 04:48 AM

Funny, my plastic is all in good condition. Except the radio surround. Never a crack in a grille.

Poppinrex7 06-05-02 10:28 AM

power window switch only...on passenger side....

MaxRX7 06-05-02 05:13 PM

all the cheap plastic on the interior, misc. switches, solder joints, driver's seat side cover torn, sunroof, power antenna, TPS, BAC, starter, alternator, cat. converters.

sublime529 06-25-02 08:31 AM

-Logicon
-Blinker Switch - Twice
-Window Control / passanger side
-Having to pull window up on driver side when closing(window off track).

-Headlight Switch
-Radiator
-Pulsation Damper
-Starter
-Rack & Pinion Steering
-Clock / Idiot lights - Idiot lights still work but not the clock.
-Master Cylinder
-Main clutch hose!! Leaked transmission fluid everywhere!!

I think that about covers my end so far!!

sublime529 06-25-02 08:35 AM

-Cheap ass plastic on the dash which broke apart into millions of little pieces when trying to replace my logicon.

christi 07-03-02 12:40 AM

Right now my Clock which you never mentioned.. lol and my Antenna.

PuppyDoc 07-03-02 07:36 AM

Where's the "All of the above" selection? Plus, my damn rear windshield wiper doesn't work... Anyone have any ideas on how to fix that? I think it's not getting contact through that hatch strut electrical wire set up.

Raymr 07-03-02 09:50 AM

All the interior plastic grille pieces break like potato chips when you touch them, especially those side demister grilles. I reinforced mine with beads of epoxy on the back side wherever possible for a little added strength.

marlaman 07-03-02 01:33 PM

What's up Cook?

Jyrome long time...... Just wanted to let ya know i'm getting the mazdatrix true dual Exhaust for my baby. i have worked my balls off on that car and at my job for $$ so i can make it decent :-D So hey gimme a holler back at marlaman@hotmail.com dude i'd be pleased to hear from ya soon.

Matt

oh btw my car was pretty much all broken. still got an ac compressor for me?

RXtony 07-03-02 06:10 PM

Hmmm.... let's see, demister grils, radio surrounds, center console, shift boot, screws that hold the rear hatch carpet up in the back, rear speaker grills. That's the just the beginning on mine, but I have gotten most of it replaced, or have the parts on the way.:D

christi 07-04-02 12:02 AM

I found another problem! Every now and then my alarm doesnt work... nor does the passanger door "lock" unlock when you put the key in the driver's side... to unlock both doors...

yeah.

Manolis_D 07-04-02 12:15 AM

ENGINE!

Power window switch!
