Ur probly gonna burn me for this...

hey.....i just wanted to let my fellow rx7 freaks about my e-fan. I'm a broke college student so i didnt want to buy one....so i've been on a quest for the perfect fan.
i own a 92 honda prelude si aws vtec as my winter beater. i was cruising in that the other day (it gets better gas milage than the 7) when i realized that it had a pretty kick ass fan.

So i hooked it up to the rx and it has never run cooler (even when i drove it 1hr to my gf's college, and played around in a parking lot for about 30mins. )

I kno i'm going to be burned for putting a honda part on my mazda.....but i works great...so i'll take one for the team.

BURN!!1

What was wrong with the stock fan? My coolant gauge never goes over 1/8th even when pushing it hard.

blackedoutFC3S 05-01-08 10:08 AM

dude as long as it works, but definitely PICS

1revin712488 05-01-08 10:15 AM

pics will come on luch break (11:30 est) so i can be properly hated upon by all rx7 owners.

Stock fan runs off a belt............belt = loss of hp.....everyone whos anyone runs an e-fan.....thought it was my time....and i know that now the alternator is running harder and that runs off a belt......but it cant be as much as that stock fan.....and now it runs @ 1/4 on the gauge as opposed to the 1/2 that it was accostomed to.

Your fan is no help when you're pushing it hard. Regardless, the stock fan is fine in 99% of applications. However, an e-fan clears up space and, to some people, looks better.

the loss of power from converting to a electric fan is not that much. cant even be felt...but i guess if you like small power gains...

MmSadda 05-01-08 10:58 AM

Post pics.... is it any different from the Taurus e-fan install?

1revin712488 05-01-08 12:01 PM

this fan will seriously suck a plastic bag in from like 3 feet away...(tested)

1revin712488 05-01-08 12:04 PM

if you could only know what i have done for a small hp increase.
it adds up.....i raced a stocker NA and beat him by 2 cars

pfsantos 05-01-08 12:07 PM

At least loose the studs that are sticking out from the pulley. One less thing to catch on clothing, etc.

It could also be attributed to engine compression/liveliness... Your added 1/2 hp from taking off the fan is offset by the suspension modifications (strut bars) you've put in. :crzyeye:

I meant was it broke, failing? etc..

ITSWILL 05-01-08 12:19 PM

is it wired up to run all the time?

A temp sensor to turn it on and off i imagine would be helpful. Isn't the engine supposed to run in the middle of the temp gauge? Isn't there an optimal running temperature?

Otherwise I like it. Doesn't look to bad either

TripGreeley 05-01-08 01:24 PM

The engine is designed to use the fan/clutch combo. What a waste of effort for no pay off. Also E fans work intermittently while the standard is always kinda moving. I guess if i was broke I'd do anything I could too.

I raced a T II with my NA and beat him by prolly 4 or 5. You know the driver makes a difference. if you dyno with and without stock fan you'll be like hmm...not that much. I personally like the electric fans...I wouldnt put one in unless it was a nice one though...

AreExSevenProject 05-01-08 11:03 PM

do a streetport..you will see a gain :)

pfsantos 05-02-08 09:54 AM

OP, the studs just screw out - just put two nuts on each stud, lock them together and turn the one closer to the pulley. Regular thread.

awddrift4 04-19-09 10:40 PM

thanks to the search button, i found out someone else has a prelude fan lol
i'm getting one for free =D
but i can always wait for the 87 fiero GT to wreck that my friend just got for its fan
