Ur probly gonna burn me for this...
hey.....i just wanted to let my fellow rx7 freaks about my e-fan. I'm a broke college student so i didnt want to buy one....so i've been on a quest for the perfect fan.
i own a 92 honda prelude si aws vtec as my winter beater. i was cruising in that the other day (it gets better gas milage than the 7) when i realized that it had a pretty kick ass fan. So i hooked it up to the rx and it has never run cooler (even when i drove it 1hr to my gf's college, and played around in a parking lot for about 30mins. ) I kno i'm going to be burned for putting a honda part on my mazda.....but i works great...so i'll take one for the team. |

Now, how can we properly ridicule you without pictures? Post Pics! |
BURN!!1
What was wrong with the stock fan? My coolant gauge never goes over 1/8th even when pushing it hard. |
dude as long as it works, but definitely PICS
|
pics will come on luch break (11:30 est) so i can be properly hated upon by all rx7 owners.
Stock fan runs off a belt............belt = loss of hp.....everyone whos anyone runs an e-fan.....thought it was my time....and i know that now the alternator is running harder and that runs off a belt......but it cant be as much as that stock fan.....and now it runs @ 1/4 on the gauge as opposed to the 1/2 that it was accostomed to. |

the loss of power from converting to a electric fan is not that much. cant even be felt...but i guess if you like small power gains...
|
Post pics.... is it any different from the Taurus e-fan install?
|
3 Attachment(s)
well.....here it is.....feel free to rip me a new one......but my mazda runs cooler thans urs....lol
|

it adds up.....i raced a stocker NA and beat him by 2 cars |
At least loose the studs that are sticking out from the pulley. One less thing to catch on clothing, etc.

Your fan is no help when you're pushing it hard. Regardless, the stock fan is fine in 99% of applications. However, an e-fan clears up space and, to some people, looks better.
|
is it wired up to run all the time?
A temp sensor to turn it on and off i imagine would be helpful. Isn't the engine supposed to run in the middle of the temp gauge? Isn't there an optimal running temperature? Otherwise I like it. Doesn't look to bad either |
The engine is designed to use the fan/clutch combo. What a waste of effort for no pay off. Also E fans work intermittently while the standard is always kinda moving. I guess if i was broke I'd do anything I could too.

It could also be attributed to engine compression/liveliness... Your added 1/2 hp from taking off the fan is offset by the suspension modifications (strut bars) you've put in. :crzyeye:
remember the other kids is 100% stock - mine completely gutted Intake header-back straight exhaust.....need a header. No AC or anything unnessesary Lightweight rims 245 55 16 Lightwieght Drive axle Stage 2 clutch Solid tranny and diffmounts.......theres more. theres a reason i beat the kid.....i didnt say i just did a quick fan job and beat him by 2 cars his car has 66,000 miles.....mine has 89,xxx |
the way i see it is;
If it works better.....do it |

You know the driver makes a difference. if you dyno with and without stock fan you'll be like hmm...not that much. I personally like the electric fans...I wouldnt put one in unless it was a nice one though... |
do a streetport..you will see a gain :)
|
OP, the studs just screw out - just put two nuts on each stud, lock them together and turn the one closer to the pulley. Regular thread.
|
thanks to the search button, i found out someone else has a prelude fan lol
i'm getting one for free =D but i can always wait for the 87 fiero GT to wreck that my friend just got for its fan |
edit : wow this thread is old..
