Question UPDATE: Clunking Problem

7:00 UPDATE: I had Poor College Student and bingoboy over today both standing by the car as I showed them what I had to do to get the clunking sound. Both agreed that is was not coming from the rear but the front brake area. Now I guess my question is which peice in that area would most likely have a prob of I guess coming loose? And what could make that sound... could the caliper be loose and still work? Culd it be a suspension part? Its hard to get underneath being my suspension is so shot and I live in a studio so I dont have any tools ....

11:00 PM I checked all the sway and end links, and although there very old everything is still in tact, motor mounts are fine, doesnt move a bit.

Where is the original post? Could you link it here?

It is kind of tough to find without being able to lift the car but if the caliper bolts aren't tight enough maybe they are moving a tad and making that sound.

I had a caliper problem where it would lock in place. When I would lossen it, it would be fine until I applied the brakes where in would "clonk" into place and lock in that positon again. I had to replace the caliper.

As soon as I find a place to fix it... and some more ideas of whats wrong. If Mild7 gets back to me maybe i can crash his garage.... and take the wheels off.

have you checked your front CV boots for cracking? If they are cracked and leaking, they can get dry and start making clunking noises...i

AS soon as i get a place to jack her up I wil check everything possible. i gues I will have another update tonight. just from looking under I dont see anything wrong. Everyting is in plcae and intact, but it is al very old. liek the sig says the car is all factory, minus the stuff I chanmged since I bought. So hopefully its something I can do myself and not to expensive, or else it wont get fixed anytime soon.

the bushing could definitely be causing some noise...when the car is raised, is there play in the wheel? Grab each side of the wheel and wiggle each side in and out and check for play, next try the top and bottom. If your bushing is shot they will be some play and it'll cause some clunking

Check the brake calipers. I've seen a problem like this before. I cant remember the specifics, but I believe we found that a pin for the brake pads had came out and the pads were shifting every time the car would take off or stop or what not, causing a clunk noise.
