Turbo Kits for a N/A??

Where could I get a Turbo kit for a N/A??? How much would it cost, and how much would it put out?? I wanted to put a turbo in without taking a turbo off a Turbo II, and without buying an engine with one.
Does any one know of a turbo kit for it?
If not what can I do to my car to make it faster. I want to beat GSTs and 5.0's.

Thx

I don't believe there are any out there to be had.

Ryde _Or_Die 08-23-01 01:11 PM

Supercharger(www.atkinsrotary.com) or NOS(www.lightningmotorsports.com). Thats all I know of to get REAL gains.

Rx7-15 08-24-01 01:07 AM

How much is the supercharger kit?? What psi can I run it at and how much will it pump out??

Ryde _Or_Die 08-24-01 10:55 AM

I can't remember the specs on the supercharger, go to atkinsrotary.com....I think its around 2g's.

Marvelspeed will make a custom turbo kit for your car. We use any manifold you want, any wastegate you want and any turbo offered by turbonetics, any intercooler you want. Here is a link to a 1989 GTU that we built a turbo kit for. The cost all depends on what parts you want to use. http://marvelspeed.homestead.com/Kevin.html

Trinity:

Do you have to get a new ECU or what? What is the starting price? Thanks.

SuperchargedRex 08-24-01 09:14 PM

If you keep the boost under 10psi, you don't have to upgrade the ECU. I've been running my supercharger on the stock ECU.

What psi can the rotors handle without damaging them??
How much power would it be pushing??
Is the supercharger worth it???

turbo kits

I am running a Cartech turbo kit on my 88 convertible. It is an excellent kit that I bought used in 92 and been running pretty much since on a couple of RX7s. The problem is that they don't make it anymore. They sold the kits rights to a company called Redline Performance in Fullerton California (714-777-5758) but last time I talked to them they weren't making any parts. If you are energetic and have access to good welders there really isn't much to the kit because I've had to remanufacture alot of the kits pieces over the years.

I don't know what the max psi is on the rotors, the real problem is the seals. On the turbo motors which have lower compression ratios, there are plenty of guys running 15-20 lbs of boost with upgraded seals. I'm laying down 210hp at the wheels with 10lbs of boost max. The only other hp gain I could get is if I port the motor, which I don't intend on doing. Is it worth it? You've got to answer that for yourself. For me, 210rwhp in a 2700lb well-balanced car is great for a daily driver, so it was worth it. Plus, the install only took one day.

VtekEater (sp?) and/or Project dereK made a turbo kit together and are (were?) selling it though Havoc Racing. Search this forum for the link as I seem to have lost it. However, I have not seen either one here for a while, and both will not respond to my private messages, so I don't know if they are still involved.

SuperchargedRex 08-27-01 02:35 PM

vtekeater is still on the board, but Derek has foregone RX-7's and switched over to DSM's. They're not making the kit anymore.

Rx7-15 08-28-01 01:42 PM

How much are the supercharger kits??? How much is install on one of those??
Does Vortec make a supercharger for an rx7?? I heard that vortec add 73% in horsepower....

SuperchargedRex 08-28-01 01:49 PM

The Nelson/Paxton kits are no longer made. I've been working to see if I can get the 4 custom pieces for the setup reproduced, so far I've got 3 (throttle body horn, elbow between sc and tb horn, sc mounting bracket) of them possibly covered, I'm waiting on the price quotes. Haven't got the last one (thermostat housing) figured yet. One major wrinkle though, I just found out today that Paxton no longer carries their SN series blowers, which is what the kit was based on. They've sold the rights and all their spare parts to Craig Connolly @ Paradise Wheels. I left him a message a little while ago, I'm waiting to hear back from him. Perhaps he can help us with the startup of a kit. I'll keep you informed.

Im still here

Hey guys long time no see.
Hey Aaron you never PM me.
Anyways I'm selling my kit if anyone wants it
first $600 gets it.
It includes custom cast iron manifold with TO4 flange
turbonetics external wastegate
550cc injectors
Hitachi turbo
FMU
I think thats all oh and a pipe from the turbo to throttle body,
soory but no intercooler.
If anyone is wondering why I'm selling it, its because I bought
me a Japspec T2 motor along with a haltech and a BIG T04:D
Later guys

Project DereK 04-05-02 01:38 AM

lol MEMORIES! sorry guys for bumbing this one too but it's funny... DSM suck! I must have taken that damn engine apart 6 times because the bitch kept on blowing. Oh well... I am forever a Rotor Motor Guy even if I dont own an RX at the moment... I am just bound to come back!

JacobFC 04-05-02 01:59 AM

I'm suprised that noone has put this puppy to rest yet.

Buy a Turbo II.

You have no idea how many little changes there are to the Turbo II's powertrain. I just sold my TII for 700 bucks. I'm sure you can find one out there for less money and hassle than trying to get less than 250 hp out of an na by turboing it.

All that said, I wanna get an S4 GTU. I don't like the TIIs. =P

Project DereK 04-05-02 02:17 AM

Bah! you dont understand! for the people that have NA's they cant just abandon their car and buy a $2000-$5000 Turbo II... Everyone and their mother has had this argument with me. Do a search for Havoc and you will see all the arugments... they date back to last year... well at least after the crash of Feb 2001...

crasher2 04-05-02 12:38 PM

wouldn't modifying an N/A to a TII lose the smog equipment so in some states that would not pass smog right

rico05 04-05-02 01:13 PM

Angel Guard Racing Team (member's user name here) has a n/a, and runs a TII turbo on it. He even has the stock n/a ECU! Try askin him some ideas on what to do. I know you need: a spacer for the turbo manifold, removing 5th and 6th port sleeves, turbo back exhaust, stock TII turbo, and a TII fuel system. So, about $700-$1k for the turbo setup.
