Trouble removing tie rods HELP!
Can't seem to remove this tie rod? I have the wheel and strut assembly removed. I see the small hole on the inboard of the nut about 5 inches. Can't get the nut loose? how do I get this freek'n thing off???
Thanks Adam |
are you talking about the nut on the actual tie rod end that wont come off. If so use a breaker bar, double wrench it, impact gun. If you can get the tie rod end off that is because it has a tapper. Where the tie rod end fits into steering knuckle hit the steering knuckle with a big hammer and it will pop up.

Well, took your advise and as I hit it really hard i did the impossible and bent the damn thing. Anyone have a spare tierod/balljoint (part that threads into the rack) I'd sure love to buy one!

I have one, but I have someone that wants to buy them already. I think one of them is bad though...
edit: one end has a torn boot, but you can get those for 2.95 each at victoria british. I have at least one that works good. |
dont hit it with a hammer, its bad for the threads etc. go to your autozone and rent a tie-rod puller. give it a few turns after its tight and then shock it with a hammer.

PB Blaster oil penetration is your friend. I used a long 1/2" drive break bar/wrench to get some good torque on those and they came off like butter after hitting them with PB blaster.
Now on my RE/PU rotary truck I cut the damn things off finally because they were beyond siezed & no amount of heat, pblaster, & tapping helped. |
