Transmission??

Car is a s4 model n/a. In neutral car makes a whining noise but with clutch pushed in this noise dissapears. driving through 1st,2nd, 3rd gear whining noise is heard. seems like in 4th and 5th gear i cant hear it much but its faint. will i need a complete rebuild?

My little brother had the same problem, the problem was that a ground wire from his amp was loose. but his whinning noise came from his speakers so I hope that helps.

Common symptom

Whining sound sounds like a bearing problem to me. That being the case, a rebuild or replacement is in your near future. You might luck out with a used, but it's a crap shoot.

i have a s5 turbo transmission/rear end along with some other parts that came with the car. ive never attempted something like this. i know its not a plug and play swap. should i just take it to a shop or can it be done by the average guy

im finally having my clutch installed on monday. mine does the exact same thing so i'll put a thread up up to let u and alot of other ppl ive seen ask this question know if it goes away oh ya is the throw out bearing also known as a thrust bearing coz in my kit i got the clutch plate, disc and a thrust bearing i dont know if u americans call a thrust bearing a t/o bearing :/ if not i,ll have that done as well im also gonna have the pilot bearing replaced.so if all goes well that annoying noise will jog on 4 good

yeah let me know if its just your clutch components like your throwout bearing. but i was checking up on that and it said the symptoms of a failing throwoutbearing is a whirring noise with the clutch pushed in? my car isn't like that. the whirring noise goes away when i push in the clutch and starts up when it is depressed.

if it is whining in gear it is your piolet bearing ,... not your throwout bearing .. if it was t/o bearing it would wqhine when u push the clutch in ...so yeah ... good lukc with everyting ... just buy an oe clutch kit and get it all swapewd out
