Top speed 160 ?

What top speed have you guy's taken ur RX-7 to ??? I personally have taken it to 110, but just a few minuts ago i hit 120 while "racing" a 95 Intergra on freeway. What mod's does it take to hit 160 ?? if possible...

Tripple 7's 10-28-03 09:30 PM

Around 150 aprox??? The needle was burried past the 150 mark and was past where the 165 mark might have been.

Definetly a white knuckle ride.:bigthumb:

I think fuel cuts at 155, I''m pretty sure thats it. I got mine to 125. My wheel is a little bent and vibrates slightly at 70 so at 125 it was going crazy.....BTW I was "racing" a Turbo Talon.......

trigger323 10-28-03 09:41 PM

Tripple 7's how did ur car handle when u hit 150 ???? and at what RPM's were u on when u hit 150 ???

rx7raca 10-28-03 09:43 PM

i saw my needle hit 140 but i dont think it is right because of my low pros. i thought i read somewhere that fuel cut on NA is 134?

Mephis 10-28-03 09:47 PM

ive been to 140, for leagal reasons im not saying weather its K/ph or mph im sure you guys know ;)

white nuckle? no way it was like gliding in a caddie not a sibgle bump and smooth as hell beautiful ride.

Edit: i have limiters removed.

My rx7 had a fresh motor at the time; I don’t remember what rpm I was at as I did it back 1998 after I had completed high school "young and stupid"

As far as handling I don’t ever remember the nose end lightening up like some of the cars I have driven past 100mph, I was extremely cautious in every turn, the road was very smooth and had gradual turns.
I only ran it at 150? For around 10 miles then backed off as my water temp began to rise and slowly eased it back down to 100 heater full bore to help cool it down faster.

My favorite memory of the speed run was the way a cattle guard sounds at that speed.

IIRC fuel cut is at 8500. We have no governors at all. If you work out the gearing in theory our cars can go up to around 170ish with the gears at redline in 5th. Having the HP to get there is another story though. I have personally been to 135 and don't plan on returning any time soon.

i got 135 just messin round and it was about 4500 k.

Ira 11-01-03 08:56 PM

I took my '89 TII to redline in 4th. I thought it was 130, my friend say 140, so not really sure how fast. It was actually really smooth at that speed though.

uhh, about 145 on a hilly road... hehe, scary. Oh yeah, with 3 people in the car (not a 2+2, and was not my idea)

UneekRJ 11-01-03 09:28 PM

i topped out 140 in 4th gear... redlining it like whoa

I`m not sure on my fc3s yet,but managed to pull my 81`rx7 12a 6port turbo to 8000rpm in the 5th. on the german autobahn a couple of years ago..belive it or not.

BS its 130ish in 4th at redline. Shift up and you get like 5k rpms and you still have to keep going.

EDIT: 4.10 rear gearing: Speed 7000rpm 4th gear 122mph

I bet alot of our spedo's are off. How many have hit 130+ on STOCK SIZED WHEELS AND TIRES?

My speedo once read 135 but I was running bigger wheels and tires. In reality, I was probably at 120 or so.

Can FCs really hit 150 without gearing and a crapload of power?

1987RX7guy 11-01-03 10:29 PM

I have stock wheels and tires. My speedo is pretty accurate as we have radared areas with displays to check it. :D

aresexheaven 11-01-03 10:37 PM

yo

i hit around 160 homos....60 freeway..no joke...speedo might have been off...who knows.....stock rims...stock size tires.....very hard to get past 152-155....u need to go on a very flat road or downhil...that was on a TII...ran great as fack...only mod was aluminum flywheel...and new clutch

Rattaan 11-02-03 12:01 AM

I did 130+ on stock wheels and tires. I've since changed them(tires that is) and not returned to above 120 on the speedo. I was still pulling from there too, but pretty slowly. Not something to do around traffic, or on bad roads. Be carefull out there guys :)

chris-reedtn 11-02-03 12:09 AM

i buried the tach and the speed-0 the car was smooth as silk. And this was on the interstate by the way, Actually on the way to work, and when i ran out of room, the goddamn car was still pulling strong, I really need a bigger 10-12k rpm tach, and someone with a radar gun (no 5-0) to test how fast im actually getting up to.

Our speedos accurate. Yeah, they are acurrate under 45mph. After that it is wrong. Tested that on my 86 and 91 with my gps

I would say for the high speed runs you should use a gps to validate it. And for shits and giggles read the speed rating on your tires so you dont die.
