Timing & Water Pump
I just got my 89 GTU back up and running and the timing seems to be really off. I was wondering if someone could direct me to a good link on how to time the car correctly.
Also my Water Pump seems to be leaking a lot of coolant. I have a water pump from a 1st gen, is this compatible? Does anyone have a website with what parts are compatible for what cars? |
a first gen water pump is not even close to being compatible with a S5 engine.

Did you pull the CAS off? Also my Water Pump seems to be leaking a lot of coolant. I have a water pump from a 1st gen, is this compatible? Does anyone have a website with what parts are compatible for what cars? -Ted |
Yes, I took it off and got the timing light out. But in the service manual it just gives you a little 2 page description i was hoping for something more in depth.

Rotate engine until you line up the LEADING mark on the main pulley.
Pull and index dimple to "mark". I usually pop open the cover to make sure the CAS doesn't rotate too much when inserting the CAS. Insert CAS and make sure the center doesn't shift over too much... -Ted |
