Question TII Engine problems - Help please

Since re-building my 13B TII engine(uk spec), I have two problems:

1) When warmed up the tickover tends to sit around 1200 rpm, but sometimes goes back to the normal 850 rpm

2) It quite often smokes noticably at tickover, not too badly.

I have no ecu fault codes, timing is correct. Maybe its a wrongly connected vacuum pipe?, other elecrical problem with emmissions stuff?

Performance is strong as ever and sounds normal.

Any suggestions welcome.

the inconsistant idle (tickover) could be the thermowax
http://fc3s-pro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TBM/tb2.jpg (the thing with the 3 screws) could be sticking/failed. this is the thing that makes the cold idle fast.

the smoking i would blame on the turbo?? vacuum leaks will make the car flood (even tiny ones), it could also maybe be the throttle position sensor

I did have a failled full range throttle position sensor recently which I replaced with a used one. I'll check this with over its full range, but would expect an error code if this was faulty as was previously the case.

Yes, i also suspected the turbo maybe to blame for the smoke, don't know of any easy way to diagnose this though...

its very hard to diagnose a turbo because its bolted to the motor and that can smoke too.
