FL Thorottle cable too short?

Having troubles getting my throttle cable to connect properly.

Its an 87T I bought as a shell with a 91T engine I put in it.

The cable reaches to where the bracket is on the back of the UIM fine but from that bracket to the knuckle where it connects the throttle body seems to be about an inch too short.

When I connect it, it holds the throttle body open and revs at 3-4k.

Is there a slight difference in length between the s4 and s5 cables?

Mazdatrix lists two different part #s for S4 and S5 so yes, there is a difference.

I wonder why, is it a TMIC difference? Ive used both s4 and s5 Throttle bodies but had a FMIC. location of the TB obviously stays the same its what is along the way that might be different?

Not sure.
Xblades description makes it sound as though the cable (as opposed to the cable housing) is too short.
If that's the case, the difference can only be at one end or the other of the assembly i.e., the bracket on the throttle body end is located differently or the distance from firewall to gas pedal is different. Something is eating up the freeplay.

thing is I never recall someone specifying s4 or s5, I wonder if he has a routing issue thinking maybe the series difference is location of a mounting bracket or something?

OP are you sure the cable is routed properly?

I routed it around the front of the engine and then by the back like its suppose to be. There is plenty of slack in the cable.

Is there possibly a bracket mounting/cable length difference between US spec and JDM?

I have a Jspec s5.

I have come across a thread with the answer before, unfortunately I don't recall the details. However, the S4 and S5 cables have an inch or two difference in length as well as difference in the bracket. There's a way to modify the mounting points of the bracket and make it work, but this sounds like your issue.

The bracket holding the cable before the linkage is different on an s4 and s5. Very carefully I bent the 90 degree turn on my bracket to go the opposite way using an s4 na bracket and it gave me room to work the cable. The thread your looking for can be found by typing difference between s4and s5 throttle cable on googles home page. Its a better search engine for this site than the one actually on this site. Doing Google solved all my search problems for rx-7 club.

and through all this no one has mentioned that there is an adjuster on all the throttle cables? i've never run into the issue but i also tend to not ignore the existence of threads on the cable.

with maxed adjustment its still off by a quater inch leaving with a throttle always open or never being able to be pulled open. set the two brackets from an s4 and s5 side be side and you'll see a difference

administration

Someone please post these brackets being different in the FAQ. Na's won't cause issues but turbo cables are different and people have a 50/50 toss up in getting the wrong cable. What happened to me is having an s5 t2 adjusting bracket with an s4 t2 cable. Placing both brackets side by side you should see that s5's bracket puts the cable closer to the linkage than the s4 and adjustment will not allow for proper operation.

I modded the bracket, works fine know. I drilled new holes in bracket and used grinder to clearance it. Done. I had two of the same wrong bracket, was easy to mod. Took 15 minutes, including painting.

Why use an FD cable? Just curious. I'm using an S4 T2 cable on my swap.

If he tells it's no longer a tidbit.

Obviously.

i'm using an FD cable, because i'm using an FD engine, and its basically the same as the T2 cable, except the brackets are in a different place, because the FD is different.

So you dont have that huge loop of extra cable in the bay, short and tide FD cable is just right

Or be like J9 and use it as an excuse to get an FD engine to go with it lol

Strange,The TII cable I had seemed a lot longer, looped around the engine bay. The FD cable I ordered is much shorter. Ordered from local dealer so I doubt its JDM? Wonder if I still have the part number? Ill look when I get back to the shop. It was a few bucks cheaper than a TII cable as well.

I been thinking about this all day, think you are getting a FC NA cable confused with a FD cable.
FC TII cable was so damn long it annoyed me to no end, when I swapped in an FD upper and throttle body I figured why not just try the FD cable- wish I had done it years ago so much shorter and nicer then the TII cable
