The following kits inlcude both the stock bulb and the upgrade bulbs listed. Any bulb substitution other than 60/55w will negate DOT and ECE approval. "

Either way $40 a set are not that bad. What were the hids going for?

My HID kits were real kits, not Halogen bulbs painted blue to simulate HID lights, and often called Xenon lighting.

I'll have to email my supplier in China, and see if the price is still the same, but my units that used DOT approved ballasts (in fact they are the same ballasts and manufacture that GE uses for their retrofit kits), included wiring, fuses, control relays and H4 Hi/Lo electromechanical bulbs were around $300 + shipping.

I'm in for the HID kit and the DOT housing also.

Highwind 05-05-08 07:13 PM

Would this housing and HID kit fit an FD too? If so I'm down.

airmech1 05-05-08 07:36 PM

I,m in for the housings and kit also

309 05-05-08 10:20 PM

309 05-11-08 12:01 AM

airmech1 05-11-08 03:03 PM

I am interested in this group buy as well. However I must say I am a bit confused.

Just to be clear the kit I am interested in is the HID from Icemark's first picture on the left. Attached is the one that I want.

1. I assume this kit will still look like a regular light is installed, except for the extra bling.

2. Also will the flip up lights will still work?

3. Will the kit include easy to follow instructions, with illustrations?

4. Finally I purchased a modified light switch from Icemark, the mod is that it does not flip up the head lights when I turn on the lights. (great product btw!) I figure this kit will not change the operation of this switch, but will having the HID lights down and shining through the flash to pass lenses, cause the FTPs and the inner bumper to melt?

Thanks for all the information, and Icemark, thanks for your time!

H4 replacements such as the HID kit and lenses I offered look and work exactly the same as the stock lights, except better and brighter light.

Yep, see above answer

3. Will the kit include easy to follow instructions, with illustrations?
Yeah, I didn't have pictures of how to install, but of the 50+ kits I sold, I didn't have a single person have trouble following the basic instructions. they pretty much were plug and play and idiot proof.

Actually because the power is less than a stock halogen (the HID lights are 35 watts, while the stock halogen were 65/55 watts) the heat is considerably less. The big advantage to HID is that you get less energy wasted in heat, and more energy converted into light.

So for everyone that is interested, I have heard back from my guy in China that built the last kits for me, but he doesn't have any of the DOT certified ballasts ready to go right now, as most people buying the kits didn't care if the ballasts were legal for use in North America. So as soon as I hear more and get a date on shipping and a price I will update, pay the group buy fees to the board and run a group buy thread.

light quality

the picture that was provided in the first page, i noticed the first picture left headlight and the last picture right headlight, the descriptions are the same but the light quality is different..i have posted a picture of the 2 side by side.
Is that because the amount of hours it was on that one seems blue and the other is white?
if the bulbs are different, i would like to get the one on the right, white.

Tiderfish 05-14-08 03:10 PM

Great! Thanks for the information Icemark! I am definitely interested.

Why do we have to use different wiring if the HIDs are using less power then the stock lamps? (Edit: I bet its because there needs to be a ballast installed to get the HIDs to illuminate)

Also is there a differance between the DOT certified ballasts and the ones he wants to sell? Are the non certified ones more prone to fire or something?

Either way, I am all in!

Thanks again for this offer Icemark!

The ballasts are more sensitive to having 12.6 volts+ when operating, so that is why the kits I had for the Hi/Lo bulbs all went to the battery or fuse box with the appropriate harnesses. Anyone putting any sort of electrical upgrade on a 20 year old vehicle knows, not to trust those 20 year old connectors or plugs.

As far as the DOT ballasts, when I was selling the kits, I felt that anything that could be done to keep the kit as close to being legal as possible was a good thing. The other end, was that because they were DOT and TUV and E code certified I was less concerned with ballast failure.

And I just never tested the non DOT ballasts for any length of time.

krazyk55 05-16-08 11:33 PM
