T66 With Stock Ports?(Seached)

Like tittles says I've searched and came up with nothing everyone had some kind of port job done. I'm going with rtek 2.1 as soon as it comes out also getting the fuel stuff done (bigger injectors, better fuel pump, etc..). Is there any way that the T would make a greater difference?

well uhhh 01-08-08 04:43 PM

if i am correct, the t66 is considered a "large" turbo and i don't beleive that the rtek is going to be capable to keep up with the demands of the extra boost. I could be wrong though. to answer your question yes, i beleive a t66 would be a greater improvement on a ported motor over the stock ports, but as to how much i can olny speculate.

88rxn/a 01-08-08 05:12 PM

stock ports + T66 = LAG
well, i guess it would just be harder to get it to boost well early in the RPM's
i cant say for sure because i dont own one but thats my guess.

a ported motor would flow more exhaust to spool that ad boy faster is what im sayin

and i wouldnt tyr it with a Rtek 2.1??
they have 2.1's now???
anyways, id go with a standalone

t66 is a big turbo and you can use it on stock ports but its gonna spool realy late.

stylEmon 01-08-08 05:19 PM

t66 is huge! it's way too large for RTek as well. I believe the only turbo that an RTek will run efficiently and safely is the B&R hybrid.

I think that is the right turbo for the project you are proposing.

Stock ports are fine. There is nothing wrong with running stock ports and an upgraded turbo. It's nice to have a decent port, but bigger doesnt mean better.

Cold air intake, bigger pump/inj, b&R turbo, A/I, and RTek would be a safe, reliable, powerful path to take without a stand alone and 'race-spirited' motor.

SirCygnus 01-08-08 05:23 PM

on a stock pport? yes.

:)

Havoc 01-08-08 05:48 PM

meh I have a To4e 60-1, Im running stock ports and its fine.

Its not laggy at all when going full hilt. ? full boost is about 4.5K on a 1.15 exhast housing.

quiet a few cars in Oz have t66 on a stock port engine.

For HP Id think you would be looking at a min of about 350 Rwhp

stylEmon 01-08-08 05:56 PM

yo havoc, he's looking at using stock ECU with RTek...
There isnt gonna be enough fuel to support the t66.

what do you use for fuel control? And you probably have a larger downpipe with a free flowing exhaust.

I am running a T66 on a stock Cosmo engine and I reach full boost around 4000rpm and my hot side is .96. When boost comes in it hits hard.As for Rtek I would go standalone.

Killert2 01-08-08 06:01 PM

Okay so then if the t66 is to big than what would be a good size turbo for me to use with the rtek 2.1( its not out yet)?

Havoc 01-08-08 06:08 PM

yeh I dont know much about rtek's so cant comment, but yeh Im stand alone (microtech / would of use a haltech if I knew better)

At the moment Im pulling 340 rwhp, but its a safe tune for the road.

sure Ive got a dyno pic on this site somewhere ?

rex3: lol Im trying to find a cheap cosmo block now for my new build :)

Killert2 01-08-08 06:15 PM

okay this is what im kinda of trying to be at---https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=706972

I have a similar setup...mine is a 1.33 on the hotside :O But like Havoc's, lag isn't too bad. The only 'worry' I can see is the efficiency range of the turbo. If it's really high (15+) the stock port may not provide enough to get to that boost level at a reasonable RPM. You'll make loads of power, but not really use the full potential of the turbo.

smaller than a T66 my friend, significantly smaller

Havoc 01-08-08 06:36 PM

Mate the T66 is a great size turbo, a few years back I recon every 2nd car Australia was coming out with them, great for the street, good HP etc.

you see older microtech come up for sale for about $300 US here, so cheap to go full aftermarket and have all the flexability you want.

mine has been modified.

same size frame, different compressor wheel

stylEmon 01-08-08 09:37 PM

you can make 350 with the B&R, but for levels over 320-ish, standalone is recommended.

Not to say RTek wont get you there, but it takes a little creativity, d a good understanding of tuning safely and efficiently.

Snack 01-08-08 10:18 PM

t66 + stock port = 8500 RPM Till boost :D

GoodfellaFD3S 01-08-08 10:22 PM

You'll have a powerband from around 5k to 7k rpms. Look into something more along the lines of a 60-1 or a 35R.

Killert2 01-09-08 01:00 PM

Alirght im gonna check that out goodfella thanks

stock turbo, for now

no i'm not joking, they need to test their shit before they toss it in a box and call it a "standalone" EMS. it's still untested for any real performance engine so anyone pushing over 300 to the wheels is still a guinea pig for it.

Killert2 01-09-08 01:26 PM

okay so now im thinking haltech thanks for info karack

Silverfc88 01-09-08 03:36 PM

I'm running the 2.0 right now with 4x720cc injectors and a T61 and I put down 325 horse @ 11psi with a stock motor. So far I think the lag is really no different than the BNR Stage 1 that I was running before, maybe a bit more laggy (top end greatly improved though). I am maxed on fuel, logs showing 90%-100%+ duty cycles. I'm going to upgrade the secondaries to some 1000's soon.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=dyno

I don't know about running a T66 on the Rtek. The AFM maxes out pretty fast and is going to be a big restriction on the turbo. It can be done, but your going to have to work harder on the tune to keep things together. If you have the time and money, sure get the standalone. I'm sure you will pull more power going with the standalone over the Rtek.

As for me I'm happy with the Rtek and when they decide to release there 2.1 I'll upgrade to it. Hopefully one day they will release there AFM removal. I'm also looking at swapping the turbo to a ball bearing type turbo.

Doc_fc 01-09-08 06:39 PM

i have t66 on my fc with stand alone 1.15 hot side and its fine full boost around the 4500 to 5 mark but i have a ported engine

Havoc 01-09-08 07:23 PM

and what power are you getting Doc Fc

Doc_fc 01-09-08 07:54 PM

i ran out of fuel presser at 16 psi ( tuner likes it on the richer side)
but i made 280kw's (374.5hp) on 16psi and very streetable i got some water injection and a 1000hp SX pump to go in then i'm goin to wind it to 22psi on water and pump fuel
