Don't see that at all... color locations don't match, shape does not match... lights on do not match... not sure where you get that

Unlike the T board and S5 lights, where they both have a wide blank section at the bottom, they both have a rectangular reverse light next to the L plate, they both have 3 circles per side, they both flash the outside circle for turn indication... etc etc etc

Node 06-14-05 08:39 PM

the weight of my s4 alum t2 hood threw me off, i remembered how heavy my steel n/a hood was, but the aluminum t2 hood is still a little heavy. I had to open a friends steel n/a hood to be relieved. I was kinda pissed about that for a while

and yeah, alum hoods have rivets on some things and a magnet is another way to tell

bah, its not as similar as i thought. usually i just see the black surround and the black line in the middle with a bunch of other rectangles, that and the general shape of the car are enough to cause a double take. certainly you can say that they atleast resemble each other?

Tournapart 06-14-05 09:45 PM

i still much prefer the S5 lights, even though the T-craps of the time suck and were ugly the RX7 make them look good.

Aruba27flr 06-14-05 09:50 PM

about the similarities... at least you can say the colors are the same. hahaha

eage8 06-14-05 10:01 PM

I like S5 lights, they're nice :) they just look more clean then the S4 ones do...

I have an aluminum hood on my TII, and I cry everytime I haven to open a friend's steel one :p:

If you're looking for a light aluminum hood without the scoop, check out the verts.

This is kinda off topic but sometimes when i see the 96-97+ ford taurus tails out of the corner of my eye i double take thinking its a FD.

Aruba27flr 06-14-05 10:31 PM

hahaha, i've had that same problem. it makes me cringe once i realize what it is.

I agree as well, but the big key was that the FD came out first and Ford copied Mazda- rather than Mazda knocking off a Ford on those FD/taurus lights

kris1212 06-14-05 11:41 PM

damn u guyz r lucky... at a local junkyard here, i went lookin jus 2 see if they had anything for rx-7s... he said that there were no junkyards around that sell any rx-7 parts

Node 06-14-05 11:55 PM

taurii's even have fd shaped bumpers and trunklids kind of

NOPR 06-15-05 10:13 AM

(Putting on flame suit) It's all the same company anyway. That's why newer Jaguars look like they were designed by Mazda.

No, not the same company. Mazda is it's own company, that primary shareholders are Ford and Bank of Sumitomo.

And Jags don't have any Mazda in them, but the Volvo 4 series are all just Mazda 3's (as is the European Focus).

JamesBong 06-15-05 11:27 AM

:)I thought you'd speak out on that!:) As far as the Jag's, I wasn't talking about parts, I was talking about appearance. Newer Jag's serously bear a family resemblance to Mazdas. I'm sure that just says alot about Mazda'z design team.

Yeah, I understand Mazda's design team did the Contour as well... Mazda consistently has had some of the best design teams in the world. Their designs tend to hold the styling for a long time, unlike many Japanese manufactures who's designs look dated after two years. Nissan and Honda are prime examples of that dated after two year look. There is not one Nissan made that looks even halfway contemporary 10 years later.

yet with minimal style changes (fenders-lights-bumpers-etc), Mazda could re-release the FC or FD and have it look contemporay (infact with the cutting edge look coming back in over the last couple years, probably more so for the FC).

A friend of mine owned an 83 t-bird we used to call the thunder chicken. A car I actually worked on. Owned it in high school the same time I had an 87 base FC. You do realize cars are around for a few years after they are made right? Check the angle of your shnozzz my friend.

Besides rounds were what was intended early in the design process for the 2nd gen. ;)

No, only the american team wanted rounds, the Japanese teams all wanted something that was consitent with the RX-7, rather than backwards to the early RX cars.

JamesBong 06-15-05 03:52 PM

Funny, I thought this thread was about TII hoods...:bigthumb:

evileagle 06-15-05 06:35 PM

Haven't read page 2 or 3 of this thread, but if nobody else has told you this then here it is.

Take a magnet with you to the junkyard.

Magnet sticks to the hood, it's steel, magnet doesn't stick, it's aluminum.

It's that easy.
