Stripping 88 GXL

I was wondering how light you guys think me and my friend can get an 88 GXL. I am talking about a strip only car. Nothing in there besides a seat, shifter, gauges, and pedals. Also planning on removing ac, ps, air pump. Also want to cut out fenders and anything else we don't need. I think we might even get rid of the actual bumper supports. Going to remove the sunroof and put a piece of sheet metal there. Might go with a 75 shot of NO2 as well. With a header, straight exhaust, intake and the NO2 what do you think would be a good goal for a 1/4 mile? Thanks.

sell n e of the parts? im in tampa :)

Yes I actually am. Got a thread in the for sale section. What would you need?

Lexan windows too? Gutted doors?

13s maybe. You'd have to go really far to get it light enough that stockport 13b on NO2 is going to get it moving that fast.

I'd think real hard about cutting the inner fenders out. Not sure how much they add structure wise, look that over closely. Bumper supports, gone for sure. Fiberglass front end?

Let's get crazy here :)

Don't forget, when getting rid of the sound deadening, dry ice... get it cold, use a mallet, and bust up the pieces. It'll come right off.

Thanks. Ya this is a parts car that actually runs good. We don't need it and one of the inner fenders is tore up already so we might get rid of them both. Think we are gunna go crazy with this shit. We don't really care about it at all.

Just be careful cutting structure that would protect you in an accident (i.e. the door reinforcement, the a and b pillar structure, etc).

You'll be very amazed at how much the dash, seats, carpet, insulation, plastic chit, door panels, glass, and stuff weighs..

Oh, move the battery to the back, obviously. Smog crap, gone, AC/PS/ABS gone..

Well we don't even plan on driving this car to the track so we might get rid of every ounce we can. I would like to see how much it weighs though so we might take it to the interstate to a weighing station.

yeah, but if you do that, put a cage in. You don't want to roll that car at the track if you cut out the structure..

Don't stop until you have a ten second car!!!!! then rub it in all of our unbeliving faces.

Ryde _Or_Die 06-14-02 08:37 PM

Lol, 10 second? I doubt it. 13 second and I will be pleased. What does the motor+tranny weigh anyways?

stickgoat 06-14-02 09:07 PM

If you strip out the interior down to bare metal and remove excess parts and such under the hood that you don't need, the car should be extremely lightweight, considering they already are light bone stock. :)

Do it, weigh it, and report back to us with the new weight.
