my t2 came w/ an aluminum hood
I'm happy w/ it one way to tell is that steel hoods have the hood latch on the front/bottom of the hood welded (think its spotwelds) and teh alum hoods have rivets <3 alum t2 hoods |

was that 200lbs meant to be the farce statement? |

Also size and weight of the car is a nice variable, youd be trying to keep weight on the rear and front as even as possible for autocross. Mainly keeping your steering radius as tight as possible. Seeing as this is the “Technical” forum lets try to save the AIM Jabber for AIM and use real words instead of trying to figure out everyone’s way of saying you and with. - Pete U NAZI!! how U gonna tell me to change the way i type my shit.? "keep the aim jabber on aim" LOL funny man. technical or not u aint gonna stop me so dun even homey. this isnt english class, its a forum. what are u gonna do? give me a F? BAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH "..... figure out everyone’s way of saying you and with." U obviously figured out what those letters meant so whats the problem? no one else is havin a problem WID it. o yeh btw, it isnt the grammar homey, its SPELLING peace out -jimmy :offtopic: |

and Rob- thanks you should know what hood i have, considering i bought my 7 from you- i shudda just asked lol thanks |
Back on topic... The hood is the only real place to save weight in front with removable body panels. The nose weighs very little, actually about the same as a f'glass piece. The fenders are about the same in steel or f'glass. My f'glass hood weighs about 15-16 lbs but it is held on by pins.

My 87 TII has a steel hood. It also had a replaced drivers side fender. Rob, you made a comment about cheap, steel, replacement TII hoods. Makes me wonder.
The hood does have the factory stickers though. |
I have factory stickers on my hood as well, they cost nothing.
You can try to look for a aftermarket stamp in the steel itself, like YBC or whatever the heck the letters are. |

And to riverzendz, if it has factory stickers, then it is factory. The aftermarket replacements shouldn't have them on it. It is possible that it was replaced at one time, and they used a steel hood since it was cheaper, though. |
You can usually tell by just lifting the hood. If yours is heavier than you want it to be, chances are you can find a lighter one somewhere.
|
sideways- I have a aftermarket replacement hood, I bought the decals from the dealer when I replaced it, cost nothing for the decals
|
As said before, just get a magnet and see if it sticks.
|
w0000t I checked last night and I have rivets! Best part is I was all set to get an aluminum hood from a junk yard and have it painted, etc. I was swapping out the FTP lenses and i looked up and saw the rivets! I guess it doesn't matter I have a vert, so every pound removed helps.

unless it was changed over the years, I picked up a vert that does not have one, probably lost a long time ago and replaced with a easier to get steel unit |

- Pete Sorry Dude, gotta call ya on your own game, I think you meant "which", not "witch". Or maybe because it is getting close to Halloween?..... ;) Just to stay on topic, My vert hood is aluminum. The good on the FB is smaller and a lot heavier, steel. Later, Bill |
