starter the culprit ?
 

Got my 88 vert back from the rotary guru last week and ran fine. Today it won't even crank.

You turn the key and hear one click.but no crank.

Tried hitting it with a mallet but no luck

Can i push start it? I know it has to be second gear but do i also have to turn the key to the start posistion (as you're pushing so it gets fuel.?) Or just leave the key to the on position like i already tried?

i also attemtped to push start it with the tow truck driver and it feels like it wants to go but no fuel to start it( this is with the key to the on position but not start position)

you need a bigger hammer... how do your battery cables look? and are you getting power to everything else? more info would help

Everything else works car ran mint all week.
Cables look decent. They are registering about 12 volts on the meter

The pump won't turn on w/key to on unless the fuel check connector were jumpered. Also, if you bridged voltage from the voltage wire coming from the battery to the solenoid terminal that has the Black/White wire using a screwdriver, for example, and the starter turns over time after time then the starter would not be the problem.

It shouldn't be the alarm since the mechanic already said he corrected it.

Still wondering if you need to hold the key as if you are cranking it to start it when you push the car

Has nothing to do with the alarm. Has EVERYTHING to do with being a 20+ year old car with 20+ year old wiring running through 5+ 20 year old connectors not letting sufficient amps get to your solinoid.

A little logic thinking will answer your question about holding the key at start when trying to push start. So you hold the key at start when the car is running otherwise? I sure hope not.

Got it to run by push starting it. I'm pretty certain it's the starter now. How hard is it to take off with home tools and all the safety gear

Easy. Just disconnect the battery first, there is a large wire (positive) that bolts to the starter, and a smaller signal wire that either clips on like a connector, or another small bolt-on connection, I can't remember. Then there are a couple bolts that hold the starter on. Once disassembled, reassemble in the reverse direction. You'll probably need a socket set with at least 8, 10, 12, 14, and 17mm, all 3/8" drive, with a ratchet and extension. I'm not sure what size all the bolts are as I don't remove the starter on my Rx7 very often, but those sizes are essentially every size Mazda used on the Rx7 (with a few other exceptions) and it'll get you there.

It was the starter. Replaced it with a brand new one and it cranks like a damn plane now lol
