Question Speedometer Cable Help

hey guys i have 86 GXL and the previous owner of my car had put in a TURBOII Transmission. I think its from a 89? i think.
well he never got to puting a Speedometer cable in.
im going to get my speedometer working. so theres somethings i need to know.
see if you guys can help me out here.

for the cable. is there a difference from a TurboII and N/A Cable?
will my Gauge be incorrect since my tranny is from a TURBOII?

my gauge max out at 150. and i dont know what the TurboII gauges top out at.

Cuz im going to buy a cable and a indingo gauge light. i need to know what year gauge i should be so the speed is correct.

help! and thanx

ok you can to http://www.mazdamark.com/about_the_fc.htm and get the gear ratios for your trainee and if he put a turbo 2 trainee in he most likely put a turbo 2 diff in ez way to tell it its from a turbo 2 the diff is an inch or 2 bigger would tell you the sizes but I’m not sure

but any who after you have your gear ratios go to http://www.f-body.org/gears/ put them in with your tire size and redline and hit calculate

oh and if its a s4 (86-88) diff it will have a tag on it that says LSD and if its a s5 (89-92) diff it will not have a tag

pic of the tag on the s4 lsd

hope that helps

gotcha... but what does the differential have to do with anything?

i wanna know if the turboII speeometer cable and the N/A 86 Speedometer cables are the same?

and if i have my 86 GXL... the regular speedometer gauge that was on the car. (N/A)
and have the TURBOII Tranny and my cable all hooked up. will my speed be incorrect? would i have to get a TURBOII GAUGE? or i could buy the TurboII face.

the diff gears might be fdiffrent because if he swaped to a TII transmition he might have orginally had an automatic one so the diff would be 4.100 instead of 3.909

if any thing get it hooked up and compare your speed on the gage ot the tach and what speed you should be going at in what gear by what http://www.f-body.org/gears/ gives you for your gears/speeds by rpm if it dosent match up and you still want to do some thing about it that will be out of my leag because i only know basics in this area oh and the spedo cable is a pain in the **** to hook in to the back of the gauge cluster.

by looking at what mazdatrix has --> http://www.mazdatrix.com/g4.htm the second gen. Speedo cable is the same for all second gens so the only thing that might be off will either be the transmission drive gear or the speedometer its self a local shop might be able to adjust the speedometer its self but they cable should fit and check down by the trainee and make sure that the cable is hooked up to it before messing with the gage cluster (i had cuts all over my arm after replacing my oil pressure gauge

On installing/removing the speedometer cable.........go into the engine bay and grab the cable where it just enters the cabin. Shove all the slack in the cable, into the cabin area. That way you can get the gauge cluster to move further towards the steering wheel which in turn gives you more hand room to connect/disconnect the cable from the cluster.

You can always go to this following site to compare part numbers http://www.mazdaformance.com/rx7parts.htm
