your oil control o-ring is done.

see this pic. this is what my car was like, when I first got it, the smoke was something like "urs", but then it got worst and worst, up to the point that if I don't start my car in a week, holy mother load of smoke will come out and smoke the whole block (I'm not kidding)

the ring just fall apart in pieces, I didn't touch it, it just fell off like that. The metal ring it's actually still in spec (barely any wear in fact), it's just the rubber piece is done. I'm not sure about your engine but mine, the previous builder use the wrong/outdated type of rubber O-ring, it gets hard, cracked, and finally in pieces becomes completely useless.

Good thing is, This is a cheap and easy to fix (if this is ur problem)

bad thing is, it will still cost you a few hundred ASSUME you can do the labor yourself and you already have all the tools to do the job.

actually the aftermarket viton seals are much more resilient than the OEM mazda oil seals, which are in fact what you have there, broken in about 20 pieces, 1 for every year of use. rubber doesn't last forever, especially at temps of 200*F.

What was the temperature where you live when this video was taken, and what does the smoke smell like?

well, nothing last forever and those who used viton o rings swear that they last longer, no doubt about it bcuz the material is just better. The reason why i didnt use it bcuz the there might be fitment issue, and i hate popping seals in cuz the rings almost slice my hand last time lol.

Stock stuff is good enough for most people as long as they actually use the right part.

the vitons are a little more of a pain to work with but they are also reusable, if you plan on tearing down the motor periodically for racing applications.the OEMs square off in as little as 1k miles or a few warmup cycles.the OEM inners i almost feel are too thin for adequate sealing, although they work.

Drove the car tonight and no smoke at all just a bit of hard start the outside temp was high 60's
I've never worked on a rotory motor and have no tools :/

No tools? hmm well if money is tight then just drive it till it's dead, then decide if you wanna keep the car or not.

agreed. :icon_tup: I might give Viton rings a shot in my next rebuild. sometime next year I guess.

Have you had any flooding problems?

egplease 09-22-11 09:33 AM

Not that I'm aware as my car starts everytime just a bit rough....started it up this morning...no smoke at all lol

egplease 09-22-11 09:42 AM

i dont know...mony isnt the tightest...i make good money as a bartender...but between the top and now looking toward a motor rebuild...its kinda daunting as its only becoming a better base... might just give it a try getting rid of her :'(

don't feel bad, the n/a 7 is a dying breed mainly due to low resale value. turbo owners have less of a difficult time in the decision to build a new motor for their car because they can at least have more enjoyment from the car before taking the hit when selling the car. FDs are the only ones where you won't take it in the pants as badly when selling it. there is actually a few shops that deal exclusively in rebuilding FDs and selling them as rebuilt and they make a decent profit at it, no way that will ever work with FC or FBs.
