Question IS something wrong with my engine?!?

The caris an 88 gxl with 162k on it. I went out to my car the other day and started her up, its been like over a week since i started her up. So im checking the fluids after shes all warmed up and i notice this like white foam type substance coming from the overflow tuby thing that is attached to where you put the oil. So i take out thedipstick and i notice this stuff is all over the dip stick its kinda like a white foamy smelly stuff and it worried me. Then i noticed the oil as very low and i added a quart. WHat the hell could that be? Ive never seen it before and it smelled realy bad. ALso the car has been sitting like all winter i only turn it on to warm her up do to the fact that it dont have plates or insurance or anything.
THanks in advace for the help guys.

Oh by the way its been lke 15 degrees here like everyday

Yes thats bad. Change the oil and filter and run the car for a min. Then check again. If there isnt water in the oil again you may be lucky and maybe that was a freak thing.

hey ok so possibly water, possibly coolant, so guys i just want an explination to why or how water and or coolant gets into the oil? I mean why is this bad what can happen?
This has never happened before and i know it has to do with the fact that the car is never run. So please give me a little more info please.

it is condensation. kind of. u don't have to worry about it. for some reason ever rotary i've checked the oil on had the same thing. i don't know if it has somethign to do with the temp around here or what but they all get it in the filler neck and sometiems on the dipstick. if you have severe temp changes it will be even worse

Boston's been screwy lately. I'd follow the advice on changing the oil, regardless. I've seen that whitish stuff on my TII, it looked like grease of some sort, but anyway, I just changed the oil and it was fine!

yes changing the oil will get rid of it if it has built up in the oil pan. if it's just in the filler neck it will wash down when you add the oil and come back within a week or two

yeah, it's almost impossible for a rotary to mix coolant and oil

changing the oil doesn't mean that you're out of the deep end yet, there still might be a leak somewhere for water to get into your oil... if so.... think engine rebuild... or engine replacement

Not true at all. Though it is relativly rare.

The original poster's problem is just condensation. Since the car has been started often and not run up to operating temperature, moisture has built up in the oil. The oil should be changed.

If you are going to store the car for the winter, use fogging oil inside the engine, change the oil, change the coolant and remove the battery. DON'T start the car every week as this is bad for it (caused condensation, etc.).
