so can you do this with the coolant line

the coolant line under the uim that feeds into the throttle body can u just run the line from the back of the water pump housing straight to the top of the motor?

NOPR 10-04-06 05:23 PM

yes.... but why?

stevej88na 10-04-06 05:28 PM

Yup, though it will bypasses the BAC, which uses the coolant to both warm up and not overheat.

boost_its_what_for_dinner 10-04-06 05:30 PM

well for starters what is the piece on the firewall side of the throttle body that coolant goes thru and has a yellow plastic piece with 2 vacuum line coming off of it ? and mine is clogged solid from the car sitting for 6 yrs i guess??? but anywho i just left the one coolant line open on the top of the throttle body and the one under the throttle body that goes to the top off the housing so now it runs straight from housing to water pump housing

That yellow plastic thing is the thermowax assembly; it raises idle when the car's cold. Leaving it unconnected will leave the fast idle cam in the high-idle position (check here for more). I forgot about the thermowax when I replied above!

boost_its_what_for_dinner 10-04-06 06:05 PM

well that would explain my idle prob. it idles at 750 most times but sometimes i get that 1500 alot lately

Why don't you just fix the car properly? The water thermo valve (presumably the clogged part) is cheap and easy to find used. The 90 degree coolant hose can be a bit annoying but again it's cheap and replacable. Maintaining that hose means you get the proper coolant flow to the thermo valve, thermowax (cold start assembly) and BAC.

Actually the plastic part is the thermovalve, which controls the double throttle system. It's screwed into the thermowax and shares its coolant supply. The thermowax is what performs the fast-idle function you describe. :)

Oops, thanks for correcting that Aaron and Jason!

boost_its_what_for_dinner 10-05-06 04:06 AM

well one thing is i couldnt just run to the store with my uim off and i didnt know it was bad till i got it off so sorry ... but ill will be redoing it all over soon since my intake runners are carmelized from bad gas ad carbon so they will be getting cleaned alongwith new fuel sys. but thx arron for posting an admin post is like 2x normal post worth since you guys are the bosses thx

plus i have block off plates so no bac

stevej88na 10-05-06 01:46 PM

Usually people block the EGR and ACV, but those who block the BAC usually put it back. Without the BAC the ECU has no way of compensating for loads (see the idle systemn overview for more details).

boost_its_what_for_dinner 10-05-06 01:56 PM

thx that could be whats wrong with my car it will go lean under load and dont even think about boost.... i will try to get another one and put it back on

stevej88na 10-05-06 04:15 PM

I should be more specific: the BAC tries to maintin a stable idle under different loads like the a/c or p/s or electrical loads.
