Small rust problems

Hey I couldn't believe what I was seeing on this either, but it's ridiculous. The last owner SUCKS at taking care of cars.

Anywho the story is, I thought it would be a nice and quick inspection if I removed the carpet to check for any oil build up or rust problems.

Oil buildup, there. All over the car. The car was nicely lubricated ALL OVER the floor. Cleaned that up. Sucked.

Rust. You know how the sound-deadening doesn't cover up ALL of the floor? How there are small parts of the car that are shown? Yea. Those parts have rust in them. This is the problem I wanna ask about.

How can I be sure to take these rusts out completely?

What I've been doing is sanding out the rust and using primer, but I'm not sure if that will actually stop the rust from returning. Is there a product out there that'll help me with this?

Please help me out. I don't want rust all over my car. =\

If it's just surface rust, clean it off and apply a rust inhibitive paint. I like POR-15, but it is overkill for most people. There are good rust sprays in the auto parts store that will do the job on a basic level.

If it is an actual rust hole, then cut out the effected section and weld in a patch.

How would you go about taking out the small rust spots from rock chips? Seems a little crazy to sand a larger area for such a small rust spot.

Well when you're sanding for smaller surface rust you dont have to sand a large area but you need to make sure it covers a little more than the rusted area.
