Single? or dual exhaust?

Hey guys i'm stuck between a performance single exhaust or a dual? i have a 1987 rx7 turbo II. Any recommendations on what brand of exhaust or which one to go with dual or single?

Thank you in advanced!

Racing Beat dual. If for no other reason:

"The reason for two parallel mufflers is being able to have better noise suppression for the same flow or the same noise suppression for better flow."

Single is just f^$*$@ too loud and draws attention from the black and white cars.

I like single, something with a nice deep tone not a honda fart can. Just my preference. Im going to go with a RS*R GTII cat-back. But some other good companies are HKS and Apexi. Racing beat is good too, but they only do duals. However they make good components like mid-pipes pre-silencer and headers.

Single! Sorry, not a fan of the RB dual cat back...
and I wouldn't recommend their pre-silencer either!!!
Love the header though, even though they did miss a spot when they welded it!!!
That turned out nice! I didn't find that hole until after I uninstalled the header to take off the heatwrap! Who would have thought that's where the exhaust leak was from!!

a single looks super clean as long as its mated with a nice can. i know that mazdatrix sells a turbo-back dual that they claim increases horsepower by 32% over stock, which is 59 horsepower with a turbo II, this exhaust requires a fuel cut defenser, which is no biggie since if you are going to do anything to your FC your gonna need one anyway. my car is running a 3 inch no cat, no silencer single turbo-back straight pipe and i will tell you that it could very well wake the dead above 6000 revs. i could say its all personal preference but since the wankel rotary responds almost solely to intake and exhaust flow, it really isn't so choose wisely

Hmm every one is sayin single thanks for the help every one! looks like a straight pipe is good for a turbo. Thanks for the link thread alecs!

I think single look cheap, especially with duel bumper cutouts. Singles weigh less and generally have better flow, but duels look so much meaner from the rear.

If you don't like the look and sound of Racing Beat you can always go Greddy power extreme dual catback

Used... I think Greddy stopped selling them :rlaugh: Check the 4sale section often and craigslist, it'll be worth it when you find em.

RotorBalls 11-18-07 11:20 PM

RB dual...that's what I have and it's not too loud and looks good

Boosted11 11-18-07 11:34 PM

How many cars that you know of have duals? Not that many. If you want to stay clear of the hondas, stick with the duals. :rlaugh:

If you absolutely have to go single, please fiberglass up the cutout. Looks like ass if you leave it.

ericgrau 11-18-07 11:35 PM

Doesn't matter enough, so whichever is cheaper or whichever you prefer. But if you're rich and want a hair more power, get true dual.

FirebirdSlayer666 11-19-07 12:13 AM

I agree duals are the only way to go as it looks right and you get better sound dampening with equal or greater exhaust flow of a single. BUT, if you must go single, you might wanna check these out for the bumper. Would certainly make it look better I think.

honestly flip a coin, i have both Borla Duals and a Corksport single either way, just depends really . . . but id say if oyur going to do single the car should have a rear diffuser so it looks like pure sex, see below picture . . .

Man, lots of exhaust threads today.

First of all, to the people who say "Single is better so do that." You guys are dumb, you cant just say what you like and thats it, give a pro and con of it you retards. He's asking if he should go single or dual....not what you have.

Single: Cheaper, weighs less, louder, easier to install, higher pitch, fc's rear bumper isnt made for it, looks kinda fruity with dual cut outs.

Dual: More expensive, weighs more, a little quieter due to bigger silencers and 2 mufflers (though that depends on if you have a true dual or a single to dual), looks better from the rear, harder to install, bumper is made for DUAL exhaust, doesnt sound all....rice.....y

Good luck getting a "nice deep tone" from a rotary with one muffler. You won't get that for the same reason you won't get it from a Honda.

mines has a nice deep tone to it. streetported turbo no cats with a racing beat downpipe. its a tanabe medallion... if that helps. but i really dont think you can find tanabe medallion anymore.

dw89s5 11-19-07 08:17 AM

i have a single with a low tone its bridge ported with header then straight all the way to the corksport power series its not that loud once your ear drums rupture the blood coming out of your ears really muffles the sound well :)
