simple blowoff valve question
hey guys, real simple question. My turbo ii is running the stock air pressure release valve on my front mount intercooler setup hooked up to a hose and im looking to temporarily replace it with something cheap off ebay for now but how do i know which will hookup to the hose opposed to bov's with flanges?

most aftermarket bovs vent to atmosphere so you would cap the line on your piping.
|
Right, but i dont have anywhere to hookup a flanged BOV so i'm looking for a BOV that will hookup to the hose
|
I'm currently running a similar set up to the one you're looking for. I've an atmospheric BOV and I have the flange connecting the turbo outlet connected to the inlet duct like on stock. However, I have the release valve on the duct removed and closed.
Hope this helps. Scott |
You can also get a one way water valve from a hardware store and put that on the end of the stock BOV so that it vents to the atmosphere, but doesn't leak at idle. That is what I have and it sounds great. It sounds way better than most BOV's I have heard.

buy a used bov that's already mounted on a short length of pipe, then find a spot in your fmic tubing where you can fit it, buy some silicon/rubber adapters and clamp that biatch on.
Or why don't you just get a bov flange welded onto your current fmic pipe and just bolt it in place? sounds like the best idea to me and would still probably be pretty cheap. gl. |
1 sweetz any pic of that setup? what exactly is a one way water valve?
|
I don't have a pic, but it is a brass check valve piece that you can get at any hardware store. Air/water goes through it one way only. I can take a pic of it tomorrow, but this is what it looks like.http://www.deanbennett.com/brass-check-valve-2.gif

the stock air bypass valve has a vacuum operated piston in it instead of a diaphragm like most aftermarket valves. It's actually a less complicated version of a Synapse. It will not easily leak, but it does require a check valve if you open it to atmosphere.
|
I have an HKS vented to atmosphere no problems with it quitting or stalling...
|
Maybe I'll just do that water valve for now. I was told the stock valve can be harmful as it pushes the air back into the turbo..

How do u get that water valve to stay on the air bypass valve?
