should i do this?that? to my car thread

basicly ask us if you should do this or that wuith your car

ill start it off
should i shave my antenna and side trim?

or should i chrome the trim

brakar 12-12-04 05:55 PM

Whatever you do please do NOT chrome your trim, if anything get it painted to match the rest of the car.

VietFC 12-12-04 06:17 PM

^ what he said and do NOT shave the moldings unless you know what the hell you're doing. I've seen so many nasty jobs it's not even funny. The worst part is trying to shave the moldings on the bumpers. The material is not very susceptible to the usual "bondo". I've seen a few jobs done very nicely, but it's rare. So... yeah.

krazykoncepts 12-12-04 06:29 PM

shave the modlings like mentioned above but do it right

DO NOT CHROME THE MOLDINGS

therotaryrocket 12-12-04 06:29 PM

you should put side exit exhausts, yeah baby shootin' flames at your rear tires. j/k
maybe you should just remove your side trim, it seems like it's usually falling anyway.

Tofuball 12-12-04 06:41 PM

I say, dont chrome the trim. On one of my RX-7s, the previous owner did that. Ew :p

renagade_rotary 12-12-04 06:51 PM

was his car jet black?
cause i was plannin on doin jet black with chrome trim

NorCal90 12-12-04 09:09 PM

NO CHROME! GAH! Painting your body trim body color is nice as is a nicely done shaving of them. But for the sake of your car, no chrome. Think of the children.

RotaryEvolution 12-12-04 09:14 PM

i was going to build a sleeper but the exhaust is too restrictive so my question answered itself by mazda, these cars need straight 3" pipes front to rear! :D

Tofuball 12-12-04 09:17 PM

You cant make a sleeper RX-7 :) Not unless it doesnt look like an RX-7 anymore :-p

therotaryrocket 12-12-04 09:31 PM

i know right, people just expect rx-7's to be fast, which most are. but come'on man my 1985 RX-7 GS 12a...must be the exhaust leak.

RotaryEvolution 12-12-04 09:35 PM

yeah, i am used to american cars with V8s, you can force enough through restriced muffled exhaust to make them fast yet quiet. working with a 1.3L it is impossible unless you make them deafening.... :D

vipers 12-12-04 09:50 PM

ok....im lost.... how the hell do you "chrome" plastic moulding???? it would melt during the chroming process!! unless im misunderstanding what "trim" he is talking about?!?!?! color match the moulding!

and about the antenna hole..... i did it.... looks great!! i shaved it at the wing!

RotaryEvolution 12-12-04 09:53 PM

you can chrome plate plastic, it requires a different process than chroming metals..

KompressorLOgic 12-12-04 11:17 PM

mycarisolderthanme 12-13-04 02:24 AM

shaved my antenna the other day.. f*ck commercial radio.

get some S5 moldings if you have an s4.. and color match it to the body! who gave you this chrome idea, anyway?

Turbo II 12-13-04 02:39 AM

Anyone got any pics of shaved molding, haven't seen that done.

13bpower 12-13-04 03:01 AM

I say keep the molding how they are.

BklynRX7 12-13-04 03:03 AM

I have an s4 with an s5 front bumper. I am going to paint the moulding to match the body rather than paint the whole of my bumper and leave the moulding black. I think if i do it like this noone would really notice that the moulding doesnt match up. Anyone with experience?
