Shifter Problem, HELP!!

alright heres the problem, i bought a 87 N/A a few weeks ago...everything is fine except for this....my first gear is all the way to the top left corner and my 5th gear is all the way to the right corner....but my 2nd - 4th gear feels like a short shifter....hmmm so i finally got to taking off the shift boot and this is what i found....

thoes rubber boots being broken are pretty common. you can get replacements from mazdatrix. you would probably want to replace the shifter bushings as well. they are like $20

you could even go to an auto store and buy a generic boot for like $8. all that really matters is that it clamps under the metal piece and fits around the shifter.
