Most likely a wheel bearing or driveshaft u-joint.

GST7 03-07-09 08:37 PM

In what part of the drive shaft IS the u-joint???

Spectator 03-07-09 08:45 PM

There are 2 joints on the driveshaft, 1 near the tranny, one near the diff. Its one or the other, most likely the one near the diff. Or you might have lost a nut on the driveshaft if you removed it once.

No the nuts are all their i checked it last night.....
So how do i eliminate the problem????

Spectator 03-07-09 08:49 PM

New or used driveshaft or bring it to a driveshaft shop and they will change the U-joints for you.

I would choose the latter. Brand new for the price of a used one.

Oh ok kool man thanks....
Is their anything it could also be????

Spectator 03-07-09 08:57 PM

Not really since its at 40mph and not at a specific rpm. But you could have freakishly unbalanced wheels or snow jammed in them but I doubt you would be wondering what it is. :)
