s5 t2 tranny into a s4 n/a

what all needs to be changed??

speed_monkey 09-21-06 07:33 PM

I am putting a s5 TII tranny in my s4 n/a too! Well... it will be connected to a s5 TII block. :p

So far, the only things I know of that need to be changed are the driveshaft and slave cylinder.

so the cross member will work?? and the turbo driveshaft will bolt up properly too?

speed_monkey 09-22-06 01:10 PM

Are you using the turbo rear end?

idk about the crossmember

classicauto 09-22-06 01:12 PM

TII flywheel (from same series as the engine)
Clutch
Crossmember (IIRC)
Driveshaft (custom, or the Racing beat TII trans-->N/A diff driveshaft)
Slave cylinder
Speedo cable (if you want it be accurate, and Im not even sure if the N/A one will actually fit)

papiogxl 09-22-06 04:42 PM

You will need a turbo starter, I don't believe it matters whether it is S4 or S5, but the starter is in a different position on a Turbo than a NA

i think the yoke is A differant size on the half shaft and u may have to use a 5 lug set up also ,,not sure check microfishe or look up the parts at advance online or call ur parts place!! u may be able to use the automatice drive shaft with ur rear end set up and the t2 trans,,i read some thing about this some were (the rear yoke auto is same as manual n/a the auto spline is the same as t2 the lengh iam not sure yet),,give me a week or so and i will have a spare t2 drive shaft and i have an automatice drive shaft out of my car i can check 4 sure when i get the other t2 shaft in!! i used the hole rear drop out, out of a t2 in mine the s5 crossmember is differant it bolts on the side the s4 bolt to the bottom witch is the same as the manual n/a right now i have a n/a crossmember in mine w/a s4t2 trans as i took the s5t2 out because of the 5gear syncro,,u will need a flywheel /clutch out of an s4 for ur s4 n/a(have fun getting the fly wheel off)(s4/s5 t2 clutch will swap s4 clutch is bigger,, n/a is differant)slave is differant master/lines/hose iam not sure check ur microfiche, starter is differant u need a t2 starter s4/s5 dont matter!! best bet get a automatic d/s i know there is some thing differant in how long it is,if i rember right i can be used any ways,,but hold off till i can check 4 sure,,,other option have a d/s made up the right lengh with removable u-joints should cost about 200-250 with useing a stock automatice d/s as a core(4 the yokes/splines)!!

ah here u go http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=2691-799

twister7 09-23-06 11:33 AM

have to use turbo half shafts http://www.mazdatrix.com/g5.htm
86-92 Turbo into non-turbo 3rd Member assembly Must re-drill and machine pinion flange for non-turbo driveshaft bolt pattern, and use Turbo halfshafts

twister7 09-26-06 11:12 PM

got the turbo d/s in today itz 2 -1/2 inches longer than the automatic one,so its not looking good,,may work but i sorta dont think so!!!

The wiring is different, I'm doing this right now and the wiring is giving me probs. Putting a s5 t2 trans in my s4 vert. Thought I did the wiring right but my gauge cluster and reverse lights dont work right now.

Link to my thread on the wiring, some good info there.
