S5 Seatbelt recall ---- what exactly do they replace ?

well, my S5 have some problem with the belts,

Driver side - sometimes the buckle does not move (I have to give it a little push)
Passenger side - same thing, but it works 80% of the time
The Mouse belt/Retractor - sometimes it does not "roll" the seat belt back, no way to tell if it actually locks up when accident happen.

So now the question is,

what exactly do they replace for the recall ?

Do they even replace the Mouse belt/Retractor ???

You know, the big piece sit between the 2 seats. I even tried to find the part myself, it seems that Mazda no longer carries it (at least for the one with Black belts)

Errrr ....

(yes, I did search!)

All I've heard is that Mazda dealers are required to fix them for free. I'd say ask the dealer what they replace, and then have them do it. For free.

well I did a search and browse thru like 5 pages of results. but no one seems to have a direct answer.

I just want to be sure ... the recall letter saids its the rail that might worn out and the chains gonna get stuck. no word about the belt retractor (the mouse belt) module.

I am having mine replaced on tuesday. They specified driver's side so I guess it is the belt assembly above the door and the motor.

The retractor in the middle is prolly broke on everyone's car mostly because the seatbelts are so far extended all the time.

I have had 2 replaced on my S5 GTU. They replace the whole moving assembly.

so basically they will "just" replace the Rail/chain/track and the buckle. NOT the mouse belt/retractor correct ?

1SWEET7 01-30-10 10:46 PM

They replace the mousebelt/retractor too. It is all one assembly.

Edit. Wait do you mean the lap belt? If you do they don't replace that, well maybe but I have never seen one fail. They replace everything under the A pillar trim.

Cuz As far as I know, the Recall will ONLY replace the part colored in "RED"

Not "Green" , nor "Blue"

Is that correct ?

or is it Both "Red" and "Green" ? Or just everything in the picture ?

Thx ;)

They replace the stuff circled in red.

Thats what Im thinking.

Hmm, I guess I have to try to source a working mouse belt module then ... Cuz Mazda no longer sells them new in black ... only blue :(

Seriously, just *paint* the a working module of any color. Duplicolor vinyl and fabric coating works fantastically well.

Once you coat one part and make it look new, you will realize how bad everything else is in the interior.
